Hari Raya Temporary Speed Limit Reductions In Force From Today

Speed limits on all federal roads will be reduced from 90 km/h to 80 km/h from April 8th to 14th.

In conjunction with the upcoming Hari Raya festive period, the works ministry has announced that the speed limit on federal roads nationwide will be temporarily reduced from 90 km/h to 80 km/h in the week of April 8th to 14th.

The works ministry has claimed that this speed limit reduction is part of the wider government’s efforts to enhance safety, and reduce the risk of road accidents during festive seasons. Further integrated operations and road safety campaigns will be carried out during the week, in order to ensure that everyone manages to balik kampung safely.

To make the journeys during this period that little bit smoother meanwhile, federal road concessionaires have been instructed to suspend non-critical construction and maintenance works on roads from April 5th to 14th, to avoid disrupting the expected increased traffic flow. The exceptions to this instruction includes operations for patching potholes, emergency and critical works, and construction activities outside road reserves.

As for highways, concessionaire companies have been prohibited by the works ministry to implement any lane closure except for emergencies and essential works from April 1st to 17th. In fact, the North South Expressway (PLUS) has plans to open 18 Smart Lanes to further ease traffic congestion, better signages this time round too such that motorists will be more aware of its operation.

Best of all though is that travel on these highways will be FREE on April 8th and 9th, with there to be no toll collected at all plazas except at Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) and Tanjung Kupang in Johor. Selamat Hari Raya!
