Allianz Aims To Eliminate Range Anxiety With Its EV Shield Policy

Allianz’s new EV Shield policy adds an industry-first coverage of on-the-go charging feature.

Insurance, by its very nature, is about providing peace of mind. Though it could be said for Allianz General to have certainly gone above and beyond that for Malaysian EV owners in that regard, especially as its EV Shield Private Car Comprehensive policy has recently gained an industry-first coverage of on-the-go charging.

Yes, you read that right. In aiming to allay concerns of range anxiety for EV owners, Allianz has touted that its EV Rangers will provide EV Shield policy holders with stalled EVs sufficient on-the-spot charging to cover the range towards the nearest charging facility. And while this roadside charging service is currently only to be piloted in Klang Valley for now, the insurance company has nevertheless promoted that it is also offering 24-hour nationwide towing to the nearest charging stations or home if the policy holder’s EV is out of charge.

Allianz Malaysia CEO Sean Wang commented on the EV Shield’s differentiating factor in a speech by stating: “Allianz General continues to define what roadside assistance means for the customer. With our latest product, we have identified common touchpoints of mishap and have designed solutions holistically. For example, if you are out of battery on the way to catch a flight, our Allianz EV Rangers will zip to you, charge your EV battery enough and set you on your way.”

Customers with Allianz EV Shield can further expect benefits covering the various touchpoints involved in powering up an EV too. These include up to RM 15,000 coverage for losses or damages due to fire, theft and natural causes to wall boxes and up to RM 2,000 for losses due to fire, theft and accidental causes for portable charging cables.

If a mishap were to occur while charging using a public EV charger, a compassionate cover of up to RM5,000 is to be afforded to the customer for the cost of repair or for medical expenses if the vehicle is damaged and the insured suffers bodily injuries. Furthermore, the policy holder is covered up to RM50,000 for third-party bodily injury and property damaged caused by the Insured’s direct use of an EV home wall charger.

Alluding to Allianz Malaysia’s best-in-class roadside assistance, Sean Wang continued: “With our EV Shield, our customers will be entitled to the same premium experience they have come to love. In the unfortunate event of an accident, leave it to our Road Rangers to take over. Our customers will not be forced to endure intimidation by touts who insist on bringing their vehicles to questionable workshops. We work hard to ensure that all the tediousness ends with the accident or breakdown.”
