Mitsubishi Colt 2024 Unveiled 1.6L Hybrid Power

This all new Mitsubishi Colt will NOT come to Malaysia for sure

This is the 2024 mode Mitsubishi Colt which shares heavily from the recently updated Renault Megane and Clio, but the Mitsubishi Colt features its own personalized front bumper featuring a striking pair of headlights and sleek daytime running lights (DRLs) at the edges.

Other changes come in the inclusion of the “Dynamic shield” grille, restyled taillights, and a tweaked rear bumper.

At the bottom of the Colt range, the entry-level variant of the vehicle is equipped with a naturally aspirated 1.0-liter, three-cylinder gasoline engine that generates 66 hp and 95 Nm of torque. Opting for the turbocharged 1.0-liter engine provides a power boost, delivering 90 horsepower and 160 Nm of torque.

This variant is not only the most fuel-efficient on the Colt lineup, but it’s also the quickest, managing to go from zero to 100 km/h in just 9.3 seconds.

As for interior equipment? Mitsubishi is offering the Colt with a choice between a seven-inch touchscreen or an upgraded infotainment system featuring a larger 9.3-inch display. The cabin is equipped with two USB ports, a wireless charging pad, and a premium Bose sound system comprising nine speakers and a subwoofer.

As for the driver’s experience, they can opt for a standard seven-inch instrument cluster or upgrade to a larger 10-inch screen if they prefer.

Will this latest Colt hatchback be brought to Asia? Well, with pictures showing only a left hand drive version (European market edition) it means that Mitsubishi’s partnership with Renault remains strong enough or this new Colt to be sold side by side with its technical sibling the Renault Megane.

In September 2020, the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance became one of the largest, but also shakiest automotive conglomerates in existence.

The three companies agreed to greater cooperation and a new way of doing business depending on market, vehicle segment and aspect. The responsibilities were split between a few lines. Here they are:

  • Nissan will be the reference for China, North America and Japan;
  • Renault in Europe, Russia, South America and North Africa
  • Mitsubishi Motors in ASEAN and Oceania.

Yes, in case you did not know this. The Renault Megane is the base product for this Colt and Mitsubishi designers only did a slight tweak to the design for sale. This is the same business practice with Perodua and Daihatsu and also Proton and Geely.

Meanwhile, the Colt is the first nameplate used by Mitsubishi Motors for passenger vehicles, and the initial vehicle with this name, the Colt 600, debuted in 1962.

Since the first entry into an international rally by the Colt 1000F in 1967, Mitsubishi Motors has continued taking on the challenge of motor sports, laying a cornerstone of the company’s car manufacturing. The Colt has been popular across six generations in Europe, with more than 1.2 million units sold in the region between 1978 and 2014.
