Mazda MX-5 gets upgraded with Kinematic Posture Control

The Mazda MX-5 is one of the most iconic roadsters in the world. There still are many fans of the MX-5 around the world, even for the older models. Mazda knows this and have been constantly updating the MX-5 with new features every now and then, even hinting that the roadster may be available as an electric vehicle soon. Now, the Mazda MX-5 RF in Malaysia is getting yet another upgrade with a new technology feature, Kinematic Posture Control.

The new Mazda MX-5 RF will still be powered by a Skyactiv-G 2.0 litre engine that outputs 181hp at a top speed of 220km/h, paired with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic gearbox.

What’s new in the MX-5 RF is its Kinematic Posture Control (KPC) feature. Available for both manual and automatic, this new feature enables the roadster’s suspension to apply a slight brake to the inner rear wheel when cornering under high G-force. This stabilizes the vehicles overall posture while still being comfortable to drive.

All other features on the original Mazda MX-5 RF are still available as standard, including Wireless Apple CarPlay (which was recently added), i-Activesense features like Adaptive LED Headlights, Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Smart City Brake Suport, Driver Attention Alert, and Lane Departure Warning System.

For ride comfort and stability, the MX-5’s rear suspension is designed to generate an “anti-lift” force that pulls the vehicle body down when the brakes are applied. KPC takes full advantage of the characteristics of this suspension and applies a slight brake to the inner rear wheel when cornering under conditions with high G-force, thereby suppressing roll and pulling the vehicle down to stabilize posture.
