9th-Generation Toyota Camry Lands Locally In Hybrid Guise Only
The latest Camry arrives over here exclusively in 2.5 HEV form with a price tag of RM 248,800.
Toyota has since decided to end 2024 with something big, as recently launched locally alongside its facelifted Corolla Cross at the ongoing Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show 2024 (KLIMS 2024) is its latest 9th-generation Camry. This latest D-segment sedan is currently to be offered in only one exclusive 2.5 HEV variant over here for RM 248,800, with it coming fully imported in CBU form from the automaker’s regional production hub in Thailand.
The latest Camry is the first to debut the new Toyota corporate face locally, which was first seen on the Crown. The automaker dubs its new front the ‘HammerHead’ design, with the name likely derived from how its slim upper grille and sharply angled C-shaped LED headlights makes this sedan’s snout look somewhat like the namesake shark.
This same ‘HammerHead’ theme is then apparently to be continued round its rump, with Toyota claiming that its sculpted rear surface is ‘balanced by the mechanical Lower Diffuser design and tail lamps supporting the ultra-wide numberplate garnish’. Featured along the side of this Camry meanwhile are to be a set of 18-inch lightweight alloy rims, with its supposedly ‘sporty design’ complementing this sedan’s low nose and lower roofline.
Dimensionally, this 9th-generation Camry is virtually unchanged from its already large predecessor, with just a 35 mm increase in overall length. This change comes from its new sportier snout extending its front overhang by 30 mm, while the reshaped bumper round its rump grows its rear overhang by 5 mm.
Found under the hood of this latest electrified Camry is Toyota’s fifth-generation Toyota self-charging hybrid powertrain, which pairs a 2.5-litre Dynamic Force high-compression ratio four-cylinder with a permanent magnet synchronous motor, lithium-ion battery pack and an e-CVT with 6 virtual ratios. Combined power output of this setup is currently quoted at a modest 230 PS, while more impressively this large sedan is supposedly capable of achieving 1,250 km on a single full tank.
Now befitting of a luxury car, the Camry is crammed to the rafters with kit within. Among the tech toys found within include a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen with Android Auto (wired) and Apple CarPlay (wireless) connectivity, a similarly sized fully-digital instrument display, a heads up display, an electrically adjustable steering column, an electronic parking brake, dual-panoramic sunroofs, a 15 W wireless charging pad, in addition to a pair of electrically adjustable and ventilated front seats.
Electrical adjustability for seats within the Camry incidentally further extend to the rear set too, with up to 8º of recline angle afforded for the outer pair of chairs in the rear of this Toyota. Switches to make the recline adjustment are to be found in the centre armrest, which also has controls for the rear portion of this Toyota’s tri-zone air-conditioning, power sunshades (rear and sides) and the 9-speaker JBL Premium Audio System.
On to the safety kit with the Camry, this large sedan comes with seven airbags, panoramic view monitor and the usual long list of ADAS features that are to be found with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0. Other standard security features included with this Toyota are a front and rear digital video recorders, engine immobiliser, and Premium Security & Solar tinting film.
The new Camry comes with a vehicle warranty of 5 years with no limit on mileage, along with an 8-year unlimited milage warranty for its hybrid components (battery, inverter and power management control ECU). For those who wish to keep the Camry over a long period, the Hybrid Electric Warranty can be further extended for another 2 years (9th & 10th year).
