Skoda’s Elroq RS Can Go From 0-100 km/h In Just 5.4 Seconds

The new Elroq RS now holds the title as Skoda’s fastest accelerating production car to date.

Skoda has just pulled the covers off its Elroq RS, and the big news with this hot version of its all-electric compact SUV is that it now holds the title of the fastest-accelerating production car the automaker has ever built.

With a claimed 0-100 km/h time of just 5.4 seconds, this RS variant edges out its Enyaq vRS big brother — previously the brand’s fastest model — by a tenth of a second. This hot all-electric compact crossover incidentally trounces also the most powerful petrol-powered Skodas out there, with the 265 PS Octavia and Kodiaq vRS both needing 6.4 seconds to hit the same marker. (Though this particular Skoda Superb might still give the EV a run for its money)

Now, all that electrified quickness from the Elroq RS comes courtesy of a dual e-motor setup that this Skoda shares with its sister brand VW’s ID.4 GTX. This all-wheel-drive powertrain currently delivers a combined 340 PS and 680 Nm of torque, up by over 50 PS from what the outgoing flagship (albeit single-motored) 85 variant.

Aside from adding a good dose of oomph, the Elroq RS also nets a standard Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) suspension setup that is stiffer and lowered compared to the standard version (-15 mm at the front and -10 mm at the back). The hot variant further benefits from a revised steering for enhanced sharpness, as well as larger front brakes to rein in that additional power.

Visually, the RS treatment dials up the aggression with more sculpted bumpers at both ends, complemented by sporty black accents on the mirror caps, badges, and window trim. This sporty Skoda further nets larger 21-inch alloys, as well as a custom external sound synthesised specifically to give it a more performance-oriented character.

Inside, the Elroq RS boasts a sportier cabin featuring Suedia microfibre upholstery with lime green contrast stitching, carbon-effect trim, and a perforated-leather flat-bottomed steering wheel. Notable standard kit includes a 5.0-inch fully digital driver’s display, a 13.0-inch central infotainment screen with custom RS graphics, a 12-speaker sound system, and an electric tailgate.

The new RS draws its power from the same 84 kWh battery pack as the prior range-topping Elroq 85, but its sportier remit has resulted in a range estimate that’s 30 km shorter than its sibling’s quoted 580 km. To compensate, Skoda has bumped the peak DC charging power of this particular hot variant to 185 kW (up from the maximum 175 kW of its other standard stablemates), resulting in a 10-80% charge time of just 26 minutes.

Pricing has yet to be announced for the Elroq RS, but it is expected to be marginally higher than the current model’s £41,600 (RM 240,000) top-end price in the UK. European deliveries are pencilled in for the summer, though this sporty e-SUV will unfortunately never see the official light of day on our shores…
