Zeekr 009 EV Alphard Alternative Now Open For Booking Locally

The estimated starting price for this all-electric Zeekr 009 e-MPV in Malaysia is RM 370,000 and below.

For those who want to move a bunch of people in luxurious comfort in Malaysia, the default choice for a while now has always been a Toyota Alphard or Vellfire. But this might all change rather soon, as there is an all-electric uber-premium MPV landing locally, and it’s called the Zeekr 009.

Launching alongside the Zeekr X e-crossover as the automaker’s premiere local offerings, this luxury-focused people mover from this premium all-electric sub-brand of Geely’s is to arrive over here in two variants: a Luxury 7-seater (2+2+3) and the Ultra Luxury 6-seater (2+2+2). Prices for the 009 is slated to start from at the RM 370,000 mark, with bookings now being taken by local distributors Sentinel Automotive Sdn Bhd.

According to its maker, the Zeekr 009 sets new and dominant standards in both performance and luxury in an MPV. Surely a bold claim to make here, but it is also worth highlighting that this Chinese premium people mover is also currently sold as a Volvo, in the form of the EM90.

Thanks to its twin-motor setup that has a whopping 603 hp and 693 Nm of torque on tap, the Zeekr 009’s quoted 4.5 second 0-100 km/h time will naturally see it as being one of the fastest minivans around. This upmarket MPV will be one of the longest-range EVs in Malaysia too, courtesy of its absolutely honking 116 kWh battery pack apparently capable of going a WLTP-claimed 582 km on a single charge.

And on the topic of charging meanwhile, the Zeekr 009 currently touts a 150 kW DC charging capability. This in turn equates for a 10% to 80% top up in just 30 minutes, if connected to an appropriate charger.

As for other similarly impressive aspects under its skin meanwhile, the dual-motored Zeekr 009 features an intelligent four-wheel drive system with a double-wishbone multi-link independent suspension setup on all four corners. This is then to be complemented by an electromagnetic vibration-damping technology auto-levelling technology for an even smoother ride, as well as likely a copious amounts of sound deadening, in order to achieve its touted impressively low 64.5 dB noise level at 120 km/h.

Now moving inside the Zeekr 009, the driver and front passenger seats are equipped with 12-way adjustments memory seats, massage function and ventilation. The VIPs in the second row can in turn look forward to luxuriating in their Sofaro First Class Aeronautic seats, which both have a ‘1.1-meter Ultra Long Electric Slide Rail’ for adjustments, and comes featuring independent wide armrests with seat adjustment controls, adjustable leg rests, seat ventilation, massage and memory functions, as well as third row one-button electric easy entry and exit function.

The Zeekr 009 is further endowed with a shed-load of tech toys within, from the driver’s 10.25” full HD LCD meter cluster and 35.95” augmented reality (AR) head up display; to its 15.05” OLED touch screen infotainment system; 17″ OLED roof mounted screen; second row door Smartbar screen; 30 YAMAHA surround luxury speakers with loudspeakers in the seat headrests; 50W mobile phone wireless charging; 9 USB Type C ports; CarPlay and Android Auto Connected Service System; and face recognition driver monitoring system (DMS) to monitor driver fatigue.

Much the Zeekr X, the 009 also comes standard with a comprehensive suite of active and passive safety aids. Its Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) incorporates Lane Centering Control (LCC); Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC); Collision Mitigation Support Front (CMSF); Collision Mitigation Support Rear (CMSR); Lane Keeping System; Blind Spot Detection (BSD); Door Open Warning (DOW); Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR); Driver Performance Monitor (DPM); Speeding Reminder Warning; and Parking Emergency Brake.

Both variants of the Zeekr 009 are to be offered locally in Phantom Black, Electric Blue and Crystal White Pearl exterior colours, along with three very well-appointed options of soft Nappa leather interior colours: Black; Stone Grey & Polar White; and Midnight Blue & Polar White.

There is thus far no official word yet on when exactly the 009 MPV will be making its Malaysian debut, with the fact that there is currently no official photos of it around (unlike the X) making it slightly more dubious of whether a double local launch is really on the cards. It is however likely safe to say that it will arrive by early next year, though the bet on whether it will be as popular as the Toyota-badged stalwarts in this segment will be one that the more risk-averse would be wise to avoid.
