Is the trident 800 a whole new bike or a replacement for the street triple 765r

Does the Trident 800 really compare to the 765R or am I crazy for even grouping both of them together

Firstly, no the Trident does not compare to the Street Triple in any universe. The 2026 Trident 800 is an ideal daily motorcycle. From its comfortable upright ergonomics to its easy to manage throttle response, I can genuinely see myself commuting through dense city traffic on this bike. The Trident’s wide handlebar and easy to process speedometer allows for a thought free and easy ride, yet when you want it to pull it has plenty enough go-juice to get going. The sitting position is another enjoyable factor with the Trident, a very neutral sitting position I like to describe as riding an MT-15 on steroids.

The Trident is extremely flickable. The slightly higher center of gravity makes quick direction changes effortless, yet it still feels stable and planted through long sweeping corners. The suspension and the brakes are friendly and comfortable, if you’re not planning on slamming the front brakes and diving into corners the Trident will do everything else perfectly and predictably . Everything about this bike feels approachable and rider-friendly yet the 113 horsepower is always available when you need it.

Power delivery is calmer at lower RPMs, taking a moment to build, but from around 4,000 RPM onward it pulls strongly and smoothly. The electronics play a big role in managing how and when power is delivered to the rear wheel. I use the word friendly and approachable a lot in this review but don’t think it’s a slow bike, this bike can easily hit 200+ comfortably.

For newer riders, this would be an excellent motorcycle. It’s also a great option if you’re looking for an easy, dependable commuter. The attractive pricing strengthens the Trident 800’s appeal as a daily machine.

The design has evolved nicely from the previous Trident 660. It now looks more muscular and full of character. I’m particularly fond of the revised headlight design and the cowl, subtle changes, but they make a noticeable difference in presence.

Are The Below Shared Immediate Rivals To This Bike Or Not?

Yamaha MT-09: Cited as the primary competitor due to its similar 3-cylinder engine, high-performance nature, and comparable (though slightly higher) price point.

Kawasaki Z900: A key competitor in the price-to-performance arena, offering a higher-capacity four-cylinder engine at a very similar price point.

Honda CB1000 Hornet: Regarded as a “real thorn” in the side of the Trident 800, offering higher horsepower (around 150bhp) for a similar price.

KTM 990 Duke / 790 Duke: Competes in the premium, high-torque middleweight sector, with the 990 offering more power and the 790 positioned as a similar-priced alternative.

Ducati Monster V2: A competitor in terms of 890cc capacity and performance, though it sits at a higher price point.

Suzuki GSX-8S: A competitor in the mid-range performance category.
