This Audi A6 Sportback e-tron literally made it to Hel and back with charge to spare.
After driving a Skoda Superb for a whopping 2,831 km on a single tank of diesel last year, Miko Marczyk has once again set another production car efficiency record. Though the rather light-footed Polish rally driver has since swapped fuel for volts, having now gone 1,338 km on a single charge in an Audi A6 Sportback e-tron.
While officially rated for up to 777 km of range under WLTP, the rally driver managed to travel about 72% farther than the official figure. The truly ridiculous number however is the energy consumption, with Marczyk averaging just 7.09 kWh per 100 km, which is less than half(!) the A6 Sportback e-tron’s official combined consumption figure.
The record attempt began at 1:55 AM on September 11 in Poland. Marczyk drove along the Vistula, passing through Krakow, Sandomierz, Warsaw, Torun and Grudziadz before reaching Hel on the Baltic Sea. He then turned around and followed much of the same route back. And more than 45 hours after setting off, the A6 Sportback finally ran out of battery somewhere between Torun and Ciechocinek.
Lest it be thought that this was all done under calm and controlled conditions, it should be noted that the car was driven on public roads and faced actual traffic. The average temperature was also not particularly conducive to EV range, sitting at around 15°C and dipping as low as 7°C during the drive.
Apart from the driver having a feather foot, there are some things that Audi itself has brought to the table to make this record possible. The A6 Sportback e-tron is, after all, the automaker’s most aerodynamic production car ever, with a drag coefficient of just 0.21.
This sizeable Sportback is also capable of its massive mileage thanks to a rather large 94.9 kWh battery pack, with its regenerative braking also capable of recuperating energy while slowing down.
Now for those who are perhaps still unfamiliar with Marczyk, the reigning European Rally Champion previously drove a fourth-generation Superb across Europe and back in 2025, averaging just 2.61 litres per 100 km (90.1 mpg).
It has to be said though that there is a caveat to his current record, as it is not the greatest distance ever driven by an EV on a single charge. That title currently belongs to the TUfast Eco Team, which covered 2,573.79 km in its tiny muc022 prototype in Germany back in September 2023.
