The Isuzu D-Max Is Still Malaysia’s 2nd Best-Selling Pickup Truck

Isuzu had sold a healthy 3,081 D-Max pickups in Malaysia over the first half of 2025.
Despite the growing dominance of Chinese automakers in other segments of the Malaysian automotive market, the pickup truck segment remains relatively untouched by this wave. And it is in this corner of the market that Isuzu Malaysia continues to hold strong, with its facelifted D-Max proudly maintaining its position as the second best-selling pickup truck in the country.
According to Isuzu Malaysia, the company recorded its best-ever quarterly sales performance in Q1 this year, helping it secure a solid 16% market share in the first half of 2025. A total of 3,081 units were sold during this period, further cementing the D-Max’s appeal as a compelling all-rounder in the local pickup landscape.
The 1.9-litre variants in particular have been highlighted by Isuzu as a key demand driver locally, with these models making up a whopping 85.8% of total sales. Topping the popularity charts within the D-Max range meanwhile is the 1.9-litre 4×4 Auto Premium, with it alone contributing 18.6% of total sales for the company.
“The results achieved this year reaffirm the trend we’ve observed since last year, where both pick-up truck fans and former passenger car owners are seeing the benefits of switching to the Isuzu D-Max. We aim to continue highlighting our product’s strengths while delivering positive ownership experiences in the second half of the year,” said Tomoyuki Yamaguchi, CEO of Isuzu Malaysia.
Isuzu Malaysia touts itself to currently offer one of the most comprehensive pickup truck lineups in the market, with a whopping nine variants of the D-Max available. From the entry-level 1.9-litre Low Ride 4×2 to the range-topping X-Terrain (which has incidentally picked up multiple awards since its launch), the diverse lineup ensures that there’s a D-Max suited for every need.
Looking ahead, Isuzu’s strategy involves widening its customer outreach. “Key efforts for the second half of the year will focus on improving the accessibility of our products by reaching out to potential customers beyond the perimeters of our outlets and offering immersive experiences that highlight the key benefits of our trucks,” added Kenichi Kudo, Chief Operating Officer of Isuzu Malaysia.
And while it’s no surprise which Hailak still tops the local sales charts, Isuzu nevertheless deserves credit for fending off its other competent competition. Among which includes the all-new Mitsubishi Triton, which only entered the market at the end of last year.
