Tesla Sales In Norway Soars 213% Year-On-Year In May 2025

This surge in Tesla sales in Norway is largely attributed to the launch of the revamped Model Y.

While Tesla sales are slumping all across Europe, it appears Norway is flipping the script. Such is as the Nordic nation recently recorded a whopping 213% year-on-year increase in May of this year, with around 2,600 new Teslas registered over there last month alone.

And perhaps more impressively for Tesla is that May doesn’t appear to be an anomaly either, with year-to-date sales in Norway for the American automaker being up by 8.3% compared to the first five months of 2024. This therefore makes Norway one of the few countries in the world where Tesla is still seeing growth in 2025…

Now all this good sales news for Tesla in Norway is largely being driven by the revamped Model Y, which arrived in local showrooms in April. The EV manufacturer is also currently offering zero-interest loans in Norway (and in several other countries) for customers who take delivery of this newly updated e-SUV before the end of June, which is likely fuelling its uptick in deliveries this past month.

Incidentally, the Model Y has been the best-selling vehicle in Norway for three years running. In fact, this particular American e-SUV has now officially become the most common car on Norwegian roads.

As of early April 2025, there were 68,378 Model Ys registered in Norway. This puts it ahead of longtime favourites like the Toyota RAV4, Nissan Leaf, Volkswagen Golf and Toyota Yaris.

Norway’s unique automotive landscape clearly plays a major role here. Nine out of ten new cars sold in the country last year were fully electric, and the EV share of new car sales year-to-date stands at 92.7%, according to the Norwegian Road Federation. The country is on track to meet its ambitious goal of phasing out internal combustion vehicles entirely in the coming years.

Back on the topic of Tesla sales meanwhile, it is rather ironic that this Norwegian success story comes at exactly the same time that the American EV maker is struggling just across the border. In Sweden, Tesla sales in May slumped by over 50% year-on-year. As previously reported too, Tesla’s fortunes in Europe have been dire enough that Chinese rival BYD overtook it in sales across the continent as of April 2025.
