Volvo ES90 EV Flagship Sedan Lands Locally Costing RM 339,888

This all-electric Swedish sedan arrives from the outset as a locally-assembled model from Shah Alam.
Right as Volvo globally unveiled its all-new EX60, Malaysia is also getting some fresh Scandinavian metal of its own. This one however takes on a more traditional three-box form, as the Swedish automaker has just officially debuted the ES90 locally.

Now the marque’s first fully electric sedan arrives in Malaysia as a locally assembled (CKD) model right from the outset, offered exclusively in Ultra Single Motor Extended Range guise and priced at RM 339,800. Ans just for some context, that sees this Swede undercut key rivals such as the BMW i5 eDrive40 M Sport Pro by over RM 50,000, and the Mercedes-Benz EQE350+ by around RM 40,000.
What more is that as part of its launch campaign, Volvo is also extending a 2% early-bird incentive to the first 100 customers who place a booking by March 31st 2026. Corporate buyers meanwhile will be eligible for fleet assistance of up to 8%.

First unveiled globally in early 2025, the ES90 effectively replaces the outgoing S90 as the brand’s flagship sedan. Built on the brand’s second-generation Scalable Product Architecture (SPA2) — for which it shares with the EX90 — this large sedan measures approximately 5,000 mm in length, with a wheelbase stretching beyond 3.1 metres.
Though on the dimension front, what is perhaps the more surprising nugget of information is that despite its relatively tall stance (with a ride height of over 180 mm), this jacked-up fastback sedan is actually the most aerodynamic car the brand has produced to date, boasting a drag coefficient of just 0.25 Cd. The Swedish automaker touts that this is made possible through careful surfacing, flush door handles, aero-optimised (frameless) mirrors and a tightly drawn rear profile.

As for how it actually looks on the other hand, the fastback ES90 adopts Volvo’s familiar EV design language. Clean lines and restrained Scandinavian detailing are complemented by the signature Thor’s Hammer LED headlights framing a smooth grille-less fascia up front, while its rather pert rear end is topped off by C-shaped LED tail lamps and vertical light elements flanking the rear windscreen.

Step inside and the ES90 continues Volvo’s minimalist approach, with a relatively spartan straight-edged dashboard dominated by a 14.5-inch portrait-oriented infotainment touchscreen running Volvo’s Google-based Android Automotive system. This is in turn paired with a nine-inch digital instrument display, not to mention an almost equally large head-up display.

Befitting the Ultra trim level, luxury appointments in this ES90 specification are generous. Highlights include four-zone automatic climate control with air purification, Nordico upholstery with blonde birch wood trim, powered and ventilated front seats with massage, and power-reclining rear seats with a lounge armrest. A 25-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system with Dolby Atmos handles audio duties, while a panoramic glass roof with electrochromic shading and standard soft-closing doors round out the package.

Moving (quite literally) onto propulsion here, the ES90 in Malaysia is powered by a single rear-mounted electric motor producing 333 PS and 480 Nm of torque. This enables the large electric sedan to complete the 0–100 km/h sprint in 6.6 seconds, with top speed electronically limited to 180 km/h. Electrical energy is supplied by a 92 kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery, delivering a WLTP-rated range of up to 651 km, comfortably ahead of most rivals in its class.
The ES90 is also the first Volvo model to feature an 800-volt electrical architecture, enabling ultra-fast DC charging at up to 350 kW. Under optimal conditions, this allows a 10–80% recharge in just 22 minutes, or approximately 300 km of range to be gained in 10 minutes. AC charging, on the other hand, is supported at up to 11 kW, resulting in a full charge time of around ten hours.

Finally, with the ES90 serving as the poster car for Volvo Malaysia’s year-long Selamat safety campaign, it is unsurprisingly packed with safety tech. This large sedan features a similarly large number of sensors — including multiple radars, cameras and ultrasonic units — powered by Nvidia Drive AGX Orin core computing. This suite of sensors underpins Volvo’s latest Pilot Assist Level 2 semi-autonomous driving system, along with a comprehensive list of active safety features such as autonomous emergency braking, blind spot monitoring with steering assist, rear cross traffic alert with auto brake, lane keeping aid, driver monitoring and a 360-degree camera. Nine airbags, including dual centre airbags, are fitted as standard too, although Malaysian-spec cars do without roof-mounted LiDAR sensing.
Available exterior colours for the CKD ES90 in Malaysia include Vapour Grey, Crystal White, Denim Blue and Onyx Black, all paired with a Charcoal interior finish. The ES90 comes with a five-year unlimited-mileage vehicle warranty, an eight-year or 160,000 km battery warranty, five years of roadside assistance, and complimentary Google services and connectivity.
