Sime Motors Partners CompAsia To Promote Responsible E-Waste Disposal

This newly-signed partnership builds upon Sime Motors’ existing environmental stewardship efforts.

Sime Motors has recently formed a strategic partnership with CompAsia, Southeast Asia’s leading provider of device circularity solutions, to address the growing challenge of e-waste (electronic waste). This collaboration aims to promote responsible disposal and recycling of e-waste across Sime Motors’ operations in Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, and Indonesia as part of their shared environmental commitment.

This initiative builds upon Sime Motors’ existing environmental stewardship efforts, with the collaboration to soon launch several key initiatives, including corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects, device trade-in programs, and focused awareness campaigns targeting e-waste reduction. As part of their CSR commitment, decommissioned electronic devices meeting quality standards will be donated to underserved communities in Malaysia, further extending device lifecycles and strengthening the circular economy.

The partnership aims to offer a practical solution for employees and customers to responsibly dispose of obsolete electronic devices, amid rising e-waste concerns. Participants can currently trade in their used devices for cash incentives or discounts on new purchases through a dedicated program.

Beyond device disposal, the initiative from this partnership will further emphasise extending the lifecycle of electronics by encouraging customers to consider refurbished options, thereby supporting the circular economy and reducing landfill waste.

Jeffrey Gan, Managing Director of Sime Motors Southeast Asia, explained, “The partnership with CompAsia provides a hassle-free experience to our employees and customers, making it easier to dispose old devices responsibly while promoting the circular economy across our Southeast Asia operations. The increase in e-waste has grown to an alarming rate, and as an organisation, we aim to address this and drive positive change.”

Complementing this view, George Hashim, Chief Strategy Officer of CompAsia, stated, “Sime Motors is one of the most established brands across Southeast Asia and we are honoured to join forces through collective efforts toward a greener, more connected future. We believe that our innovative approach to extending the life cycle of devices together with Sime Motors’ leadership will greatly influence consumers to make choices that help preserve our planet.”

Sime Motors and CompAsia aim to provide practical solutions that help customers and employees contribute to the circular economy. The partnership focuses on raising awareness about the growing issue of e-waste and encouraging responsible device disposal.
