Selangor MB Visits Chery Headquarters In Wuhu, China

This visit comes as Chery invests over RM 2 billion into its new smart auto complex in Hulu Selangor.
Arriving directly from Shanghai, the Selangor state delegation continued its working trip at Chery International Park in Wuhu, where they were given a first-hand look at the Chinese carmaker’s global headquarters and sprawling manufacturing facilities. The visit offered valuable insights into Chery’s scale of operations, technological strengths and ongoing global expansion strategy.
During the tour, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari was particularly struck by the high level of automation within Chery’s automobile plant. Almost all welding and assembly work is now performed by robots, with only intricate detailing and final quality checks still requiring human expertise. He noted that this robotic integration was a clear sign of Chery’s manufacturing advancement, before also taking the chance to test drive several of the company’s latest models on-site.
One of the more fascinating innovations introduced during the visit was AiMOGA, Chery’s humanoid robot that has already been rolled out in a number of its 4S showrooms worldwide. Able to walk, process human speech and respond in eleven languages, Chery has shipped around 220 AiMOGA units globally to date. Its deployment underscores both the commercial readiness of the technology and Chery’s willingness to embrace AI-driven customer engagement.
The Selangor delegation also held discussions with Chery chairman Yin Tongyue, focusing on the group’s ongoing investment in Selangor. The talks highlighted the importance of strengthening the local supply chain, as well as opportunities for knowledge-sharing and technology transfer. The Menteri Besar expressed optimism that these collaborations will further unlock economic opportunities and support Selangor’s positioning as Malaysia’s premier investment hub.
Chery’s commitment to the state is already materialising through the construction of the Chery Smart Auto Industrial Park in Beringin High-Tech Auto Valley, Hulu Selangor. The facility has an initial production target of 100,000 vehicles annually, with future capacity to expand up to 300,000 units.
Beyond assembly lines, the site aims to create a full automotive ecosystem by involving local suppliers, offering vocational training, and driving innovation across petrol, hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fully electric vehicle technologies. This investment is expected to generate high-skilled jobs, benefit SMEs in the supply chain, and strengthen Selangor’s competitiveness on the global stage.
At present, the Chinese automotive giant manages four brands in Malaysia — Chery, Omoda Jaecoo, iCaur and Jetour — with Omoda and Jaecoo already among the country’s top 10 best-selling marques. Interestingly, while Chery operates its own plant in Shah Alam producing Omoda and Jaecoo models, Chery-badged vehicles are still assembled at Inokom’s facility in Kulim, Kedah.
