Proton S70 Spotted Virtually Undisguised, Local Launch Soon?

A picture of a pair of these all-new Proton sedans has been circulating social media recently.

While it has certainly been long known that Proton is preparing to debut an all-new sedan, it has only been recently that the S70 has been spotted undisguised. And this image of a pair of them in silvery white, which has been making the rounds on social media of late, has given us the best look yet at what this new Preve successor looks like.

What more too is that both these Proton sedans appear to be virtually ready for sale, with the usual clear plastic wrapping on the seats and everything. So it could therefore be inferred that a launch of this new S70 should not be too far off the horizon, maybe by the end of the month perhaps?

Putting that particular speculation aside first and looking more at the picture here in the meantime, the front of this new Proton sedan happily looks somewhat distinct from the Geely Preface on which it is allegedly based upon. Unfortunately however, the localisation efforts may appear to have taken the sharp stylistic edge off the Chinese original.

Much of this of course could possibly be blamed on the uninspiring colour of these two silver Protons here, which does give them more than a hint of rental spec to it. Both of these cars being likely mid-spec variants certainly does not shake that perception too, with neither of these netting the bodykit (which was previously spied on a dark blue S70) that gives this sedan a more purposeful appearance.

It would also seem that despite the new X90 featuring Proton’s new indented Mercedes-esque Infinite Weave grille with little silver inserts, the S70 however curiously comes instead with the old-style (and slightly protruding) X70 front grille pattern instead. This in turn contributes somewhat to this new sedan to look much less like the sleek Geely on which it is based, but instead more like a Dacia Logan…

In any case, unlike the aforementioned bare bones Romanian sedan, this new S70 here does nevertheless feature some dual-tone alloy wheels. It can also be observed from the protrusion on the dashboard for this new Proton sedan to feature a rather sizeable infotainment touchscreen, much like what is currently seen within the Geely Preface.

Proton has yet to announce what exactly will be powering its new sedan, but there really is little doubt that under the hood of this S70 is likely to be the 1.5-litre turbocharged three cylinder that is found in its other Geely-based models. It just remains the question on whether the X90’s 48 V mild-hybrid system will make an appearance or not.

The pricing of this upcoming Proton sedan is very much up in the air too. But given that the S70 looks virtually ready for launch already, these questions likely won’t be an unknown for that much longer now.
