Mazda CX-9 Updated in Malaysia With New Ignite Edition

Prices for this refreshed flagship Mazda SUV starts from RM 319,847.40 locally. 

Mazda’s CX-9 has recently received a mild refresh locally for 2021. Bringing with it a few new styling tweaks and tech toys, as well as a new name in the form of the Ignite Edition. 

Starting with the styling enhancements on this updated CX-9 first, new on this Mazda flagship SUV are various black accents to give it a more aggressive aesthetic both outside and in. These black bits includes a new gloss black front grille and equally gloss black exterior mirror caps, not to mention too a set of 20-inch black metallic aluminium alloy wheels and some black interior trim on the dash, door panels and handle bezels within.  

Not black however is the colour of its leather seats, which now come in a rather pleasing shade of Burgundy instead. And in continuing on the changes within the CX-9, Mazda has since added wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity to its 9-inch central infotainment display, in addition to a wireless charging pad and paddle shifters to better control its six-speed automatic transmission. 

Touching upon its transmission meanwhile, hooked up to it in all these updated CX-9s sold in Malaysia remains the same SkyActiv-G 2.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder that continues to provide 228 hp and 420 Nm of torque. Local buyers however do nevertheless have the option to choose between a two-wheel drive variant that drives solely its front wheels, or a 4WD option gets Mazda’s i-Activ all-wheel drive system and Off-road Traction Assist. 

Regardless of variant though, both trims of updated CX-9 available locally come with a boatload of active and passive safety features, which this time round has added Smart Brake Support and Mazda Radar Cruise Control to the mix. All the typical luxury accoutrements that is fit for a flagship SUV is predictably still retained too, with an extensive equipment list that runs the gamete from a ten-way power driver’s seat with memory positioning to three-zone automatic climate control. 

Available in a choice of six exterior hues: Soul Red Crystal, Machine Gray, Snowflake White Pearl, Sonic Silver, Deep Crystal Blue and Jet Black, this fully-imported from Japan updated Mazda CX-9 currently retails over here in Malaysia from a 50% SST-exempt price of RM 319,847.40 for the 2WD variant, and RM 336,215.40 for the trim that drives all four wheels. Included with the price too is a 5-Years/100,000 km manufacturer warranty, as well as a 5-Years/100,000 km Free Maintenance package that is inclusive of labour, parts and lubricants.

For 2021, the Mazda CX-9 receives upgrades to its technology and styling. Mazda’s suite of i-Activsense safety features in the 2021 Mazda CX-9 includes Adaptive LED Headlights, Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning with Lane-Keep Assist, Driver Attention Alert, Smart City Brake Support and the newly added Smart Brake Support and Mazda Radar Cruise Control.

Other standard features include, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, three-zone automatic climate control, ten-way power driver’s seat with memory positioning, interior LED accents, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio pairing, keyless entry and push-button start. LED headlights with auto-leveling, LED daytime running lights and taillights, and rain-sensing windshield wipers are also standard in the new 2021 Mazda CX-9.

Arriving in style after an invigorating journey, the Mazda CX-9’s sleek design is matched by its responsive performance. The Skyactiv-G 2.5 Turbo engine equipped on both Two-Wheel Drive (2WD) and Mazda’s i-Activ All-Wheel Drive (AWD) variants delivers a robust 228 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque. The turbocharged engine is paired with a quick-shifting, six-speed Skyactiv-Drive automatic transmission and has G-Vectoring Control Plus as standard. 

The 2021 Mazda CX-9 “Ignite Edition” is currently CBU from Japan. The colour line-up includes Soul Red Crystal, Machine Gray, Snowflake White Pearl, Sonic Silver, Deep Crystal Blue and Jet Black; making a total of 6 colours available. 

Selling price for the vehicle starts from RM 319,847.40, which is inclusive of the 50% Sales Tax Reduction (SST) on CBU models and is valid from now to 31st December 2021. 

The model comes with a 5-Years Manufacturer Warranty + 5-Years Free Maintenance according to manufacturer’s standards inclusive of labour, parts and lubricants. Both Manufacturer Warranty and Free Maintenance have a coverage period of five years and a mileage limit of 100,000km, whichever comes first.
