Lotus Emeya EV Hyper-GT Launched Locally From RM 555,000

The local launch of the Emeya coincides with Lotus opening its 1st flagship store in Glenmarie.

Following on from its initial international introduction late last year, the Lotus Emeya has since officially made its way over here to Malaysia. This all-electric four door self-styled Hyper-GT (Grand Tourer) arrives locally in 3 flavours, with prices starting from RM 555,000:

  • Emeya: RM 555,000
  • Emeya S: RM 643,000
  • Emeya R: RM 777,000

Riding on the same bespoke 800 V Electric Premium Architecture (EPA) platform as the the Eletre SUV, the base Emeya and its mid-tier S variant currently packs a decent 603 hp (450 kW) and 710 Nm of torque from its dual electric motors. All this power is then sent to all four wheels courtesy of a full-time all-wheel drive with Lotus ICC intelligent torque distribution, which in turn enables both trims to sprint from zero to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds before hitting a top speed of 250 km/h.

Step up to the Emeya R meanwhile and that combined power figure is then bumped up even further still to a staggering 905 hp and 985 Nm of torque, with Lotus adding another ratio to its single-speed transmission as well. The century sprint in this particular trim therefore is to be quoted by its maker at a lightning-quick 2.8 seconds, with it capable of hitting 200 km/h in just nine seconds on its way to a top speed of 256 km/h.

Powering all Emeya variants is to be a 102 kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery pack, with the base trim, S and R respectively claimed to manage up to 610 km, 540 km and 435 km on a single charge based on the WLTP testing cycle. AC and DC charging power for this all-electric Lotus currently peaks at 22 kW and 350 kW respectively, with the latter effectively capable of extending its range by 150 km with just a five-minute charge, and charge from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes.

Now among the cooler exterior highlights on this sleek new Lotus sedan includes for it to feature an active front grille right below its dual L-shaped LED headlights up front, in addition to an active air dam that increases downforce at high speeds. This performance-centric EV also nets a rear diffuser, which is in turn overshadowed round its rump by an industry-leading dual-layer active rear spoiler that offers a net downforce of more than 215 kg.

Further differentiating the flagship racey Emeya R is the standard fitment of a carbon pack that sees its front splitter, roof, side mirror caps, rear Gurney flap and rear diffuser made of that composite material. The particular trim also adds a handling pack that includes active roll stabilisation and rear-wheel steering, though an electronically controlled air suspension system (with advanced on-board sensors that scan the road 1,000 times every second) is standard across the lineup.

As for what lies within the Emeya, Lotus has been touting its sustainability credentials through its use of a new kind of thread made from repurposed fibres for the four individual seats within this super sedan. On the tech front on the other hand, this high-tech EV nets twin 12.6-inch driver and passenger displays and a massive floating 15.1-inch infotainment touchscreen, plus a 55-inch head-up display and KEF premium audio system.

The Emeya is to be Lotus’ first four-door sedan after the Opel Omega-based Carlton from the 1990s. This super sedan will be built alongside its SUV sibling at the automaker’s EV hub in Wuhan, China, with all variants landing locally with a five-year/150,000 km manufacturer’s warranty and an eight-year/200,000km battery warranty.
