Jetour VT9 7-Seat SUV Launched Locally From RM 118,800

Two variants of the Jetour VT9 are currently available over here: Comfort (RM 118,800) and Prime (RM 123,800).
Another day, another new Chinese SUV lands over here. But this one here is somewhat special, as it is capable of seating seven, and yet starts at just RM 118,800! Meet the Jetour VT9, the second model to join this yet another Chery offshoot’s growing lineup after the Dashing SUV.
This new offering lands barely weeks after the brand’s local debut and is already being assembled right here in Malaysia, at Berjaya’s plant in Johor. There are currently two variants of VT9 on offer over here: the base Comfort at RM 118,800 and the better-equipped Prime at RM 123,800.
And yes, that rather low price does see the VT9 to only be about RM10k more than the smaller Dashing. So if you’ve been looking for one of the cheapest new 7-seater SUVs on the market today, this is it.
Now despite being capable of seating seven, it’s worth noting that the Jetour VT9 is not exactly the largest SUV out there. Measuring 4,724 mm long, 1,900 mm wide, and 1,720 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,720 mm, its dimensions are actually not too far off a Honda CR-V.
In terms of exterior aesthetics, up front of the Jetour VT9 is the brand’s signature “X-Face” front grille flanked by full complement of LED lights. This SUV further comes as standard on 19-inch alloy wheels, while the rear end features a full-width futuristic light bar and quad exhaust pipes.
Jetour touts that the exterior styling of this SUV has been inspired by traditional Chinese design, with the VT9 also incorporating unique visual elements such as lantern-style daytime running lights and a feather-array grille, blending cultural motifs with contemporary SUV design cues.
Inside, the Comfort variant of VT9 features twin 10.25-inch displays for the infotainment system and digital instrument cluster, supporting wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Additional amenities include a D-shaped steering wheel with shift paddles, a cooled front centre armrest box, 50W wireless charging, a six-way powered driver’s seat, four speakers, blue ambient lighting, a power tailgate, cruise control, a 360º surround view camera, tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and four airbags.
The Prime variant further enhances the offering with a panoramic sunroof, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, two additional speakers (totaling six), two more airbags (also totaling six), driver’s seat memory functionality, and front and rear door puddle lamps. Also included in this higher-end trim are a host of advanced driver assistance features such as blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, lane change warning, and door opening warning, though autonomous emergency braking (AEB) and adaptive cruise control (ACC) are curiously omitted in the specifications.
Both VT9 variants are to be powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine (incidentally shared with the Chery Omoda 5), delivering 156 horsepower and 230 Nm of torque. This mill is then paired with a six-speed wet dual-clutch transmission, which sends power to solely the front wheels.
The Jetour VT9 is available in five exterior colours: Star Black, Khaki White, Phantom Grey, Tech Grey, and Aurora Green. Jetour Malaysia is also offering a competitive aftersales package that includes a seven-year/150,000 km vehicle warranty, a ten-year/1,000,000 km engine warranty, and five free service sessions (inclusive of both parts and labour). On top of that, the first 800 customers will receive a RM2,000 rebate as part of the launch promotion.
For those curious, “VT” stands for “Venture,” reflecting Jetour’s “Travel+” brand philosophy of creating vehicles built for meaningful, experience-driven journeys. The “9” represents expanded space and comfort—positioning the VT9 as an ideal vehicle for family road trips or long-distance travel.
“The launch represents a strategic step forward in catering to the diverse and ever-evolving market needs. The Jetour VT9 is a progression in the brand’s expansion strategy, being a dynamic SUV engineered to deliver style, performance, and smart practicality. As we grow our footprint in Malaysia, we are committed to introducing vehicles that offer both functionality and design, with a clear sense of purpose and innovation,” said Mr Fu Yong, Chief Executive Officer of Jetour Malaysia.
