GWM’s Haval H6 HEV To Be Locally Assembled In Malaysia

This new Malaysian-assembled Haval H6 will be launching locally within the next few months.

GWM Malaysia has recently announced that its Haval H6 will soon be arriving in Malaysia within the next few months, but perhaps the bigger announcement here is that this Chinese SUV will be its first locally-assembled over here.

This inaugural CKD product of GWM Malaysia’s is to be a collaborative project with EPMB, with its efforts towards the establishment of a local assembly plant over here being touted by the Chinese automaker as a significant step towards its plan in further establishing its ASEAN market presence. The upcoming local launch of the Haval H6 within the third quarter of this year will be the third and final product GWM plans to debut over here in 2024, with it coming after the arrival of the Ora 07 and Tank 300 back in April and July respectively.

Now official details regarding the Malaysian-spec Haval H6 remains somewhat elusive thus far, but it has previously been hinted that two variants of this Chinese SUV will be made available upon its local launch. It has since also been teased that both these trims will be sharing a single hybrid powertrain, consisting of 1.5 litre turbocharged four-cylinder and electric motor pairing that supposedly outputs a combined 243 PS and 530 Nm of torque.

As is synonymous with any Chinese offering locally too, the Haval H6 HEV has been confirmed to come absolutely chock full of kit when it eventually arrives. Among the highlights to that end includes LED headlights and taillights on the outside (in addition to a rather funky Mazda Cosmo-looking quad-segmented third brake light cluster on its roof spoiler), while a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch central infotainment touchscreen headlines the features within.

And finally coming to the topic of how much the Haval H6 will cost when it arrives, GWM Malaysia has unfortunately not offered up an official figure just yet. A ballpark estimate however in the region of RM 140,000 – RM 160,000 will nevertheless see it be a rather tempting alternative to Malaysians who currently are considering the likes of the similarly locally-assembled Mazda CX-5 and Honda CR-V. Local order books for this Chinese SUV have incidentally been open for a while now too, with it having previously making its initial public debut over here at the Malaysia Autoshow 2024.

In discussing a little bit more on GWM Malaysia’s CKD ambitions here meanwhile, the Chinese automaker touts that this strategic partnership it has made with EPMB ‘strives to offer a more affordable range of high-quality vehicles while generating more employment opportunities for Malaysians’. It further adds that this strategy further expands the production layout of its products overseas, and better meet the needs of users in overseas markets.

The Chinese automaker the goes on to state that since it (re)entered the Malaysian market back in 2022 with the Ora Good Cat, it is committed to redefining the concept of automobiles with its innovative approach to producing user-friendly vehicles. The brand carries out a simple yet profound philosophy: “A car is not just a mode of transportation, but a showcase of your lifestyle.”

To further bolster long-term ownership confidence of its products over here as well, GWM Malaysia has stated that it has direct access to the manufacturer and can provide customers with unparalleled after-sales support and warranty services. For the long term, GWM proclaims that it ‘always offers remarkable warranties to their customers, reflecting their confidence and commitment to their products’.

“Our commitment to delivering innovative products and excellent services has always been at the core of our mission in Malaysia,” affirmed Mike Cui An Qi, Managing Director of GWM Malaysia. “We aim to establish GWM as a renowned and trusted brand, recognised for our dedication to quality and customer satisfaction.”
