Volunteer Drivers Needed For GoCar’s GoVax Shuttle Service

Here’s a ready-made excuse for avid drivers to go out, and do some good in the process.

Bored stiff of being cooped up at home during this most recent phase of lockdown, and desperately wishing to go for a drive? Well there could be a perfectly legal solution now, as GoCar is currently calling for volunteer drivers to assist in its GoVax shuttle service.

Just a brief bit of background into the GoVax shuttle service first, this program was kickstarted with the aim of providing the elderly and persons with disabilities (PWDs) free rides to designated vaccination centres in the Petaling district. Growing demand for this service however has since prompted the launch of its complimentary public GoVax Heroes program, in order to supplement the existing volunteers from GoCar Malaysia’s employee pool.

Now in terms of the sign up requirements, all that is required to become a GoVax Hero is for the interested individuals to be between the ages of 18 and 50, and possess a valid Malaysian driver’s license. You don’t even need to have a car to volunteer too, as GoCar will be providing the vehicles for use, not to mention also covering the petrol costs and parking fees incurred!

As for schedules meanwhile, volunteer GoVax Heroes will be only be assigned to vaccinations scheduled on Saturdays and Sundays, so that their work and weekday routines will not be affected. To those who are interested in getting out of the house during the weekend while simultaneously doing some good then, the link to the registration site can be found here.

For those who require (or know someone who may require) a free GoVax shuttle on the other hand, a booking for this service can be made through GoCar’s 24/7 hotline at 1 300-30-2633 or can be requested via its smartphone application. Reservations must be made at least three days in advance, and requests will be processed on a first come, first served basis.

A program that was launched in collaboration with Kampung Tunku state assemblyperson YB Lim Yi Wei on the 25th of May, the GoVax shuttle service has thus far successfully provided free rides to and from vaccination centres to over 300 senior citizens and PWDs. With the help of the Malaysian public too, this number is surely to grow exponentially.

Further information about the GoVax Heroes volunteer driver programme and the GoVax shuttle service can be found in the press release below.

Interested individuals must be between the ages of 18 and 50 with a valid Malaysian driver’s license. Those who wish to volunteer can drop their details here (https://hi.gocar.my/blog/were-looking-for-more-govax-heroes/).

The shout out comes following the increase of vaccination appointments by the Malaysian government and growing demand for the free GoVax shuttle service.

Since the programme commenced on 25 May 2021, the GoVax Heroes have provided free rides to and from vaccination centres for over 300 senior citizens and PWDs. The GoVax Heroes have thus far been volunteers from GoCar Malaysia’s employee pool.

A CSR programme by car-sharing platform GoCar Malaysia, in collaboration with Kampung Tunku state assemblyperson YB Lim Yi Wei, the GoVax shuttle service currently covers Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre, Hospital Shah Alam, Klinik Rakan Medik Petaling Jaya, University Malaysia Medical Centre (UMMC) and Ideal Convention Centre Shah Alam (IDCC).

“Since we launched the GoVax programme, we have been heartened by multiple queries coming in from members of the public who wanted to volunteer. We welcome all the support we can get as the government continues to intensify vaccination efforts. I am proud that Malaysians are so giving and caring. It is only through a concerted effort that we can beat this ongoing battle with COVID-19,” said Wong Hoe Mun, CEO, GoCar Malaysia.

“I’m very happy to see our GoVax initiative pass the 300-passenger mark. Many have expressed that they wouldn’t be able to get to the vaccination centres otherwise. Help us help more senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs) get vaccinated so that we can get closer to achieving herd immunity. Kita Jaga Kita!” said YB Lim Yi Wei, state assemblyperson for Kampung Tunku.

To book a free GoVax shuttle, contact the 24/7 hotline 1 300-30-2633 or request via the GoCar mobile app.

Bookings must be made at least three days in advance. Drivers are limited and requests will be processed on a first come, first served basis.
