Chery Rewards Malaysian Olympic Medalists With Tiggo 7 Pros

The three bronze medalists from the 2024 Paris Olympics each received a new Chery Tiggo 7 Pro. 

Chery Malaysia has recently handed over a Tiggo 7 Pro each to the 3 national athletes that managed to secure a bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. These three local sports stars were Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik, who competed in the Men’s doubles badminton event, and Lee Zii Jia, who contended in the Men’s Singles category. 

Both men’s doubles bronze medalists were present at the recent handover ceremony, where they received their new Khaki White Tiggo 7 Pros. Zii Jia however was unfortunately unable to attend the event, as he is currently competing in an overseas tournament.

“We are honoured to present Aaron, Wooi Yik and Zii Jia with the new Tiggo 7 Pro each for their outstanding achievements at the Paris Olympics. Their grit, determination, and perseverance throughout the Games are truly inspiring, and we are proud to celebrate their success with a vehicle that mirrors these qualities,” said Michael Chew, Vice President of Chery Malaysia who presented the vehicles to the medallists together with YB Hannah Yeoh, Minister of Youth and Sports who was also present the grace the ceremony.

Mr. Chew further hopes that the badminton players will find joy in their new ride, and that it will accompany them through memorable journeys ahead, from commuting to training sessions, to spending quality moments with family and friends.

YB Yeoh meanwhile thanked Chery for their sponsorship and believe in the local athletes who competed in Paris. “We believe that sports is a unifying tool for Malaysia. We encourage the private sector to play their role in rewarding athletes when they succeed in bringing back medals. What makes Chery’s gesture special is that they are celebrating all medal winners,” said Yeoh.

Prior to the 2024 Paris Olympics, Chery Malaysia had pledged a significant reward scheme for medal-winning athletes at the games. Those who scored Malaysia’s first-ever Olympics gold will get to drive home in the a Tiggo 8 Pro, while silver medalists will be awarded the all-electric Omoda E5, and bronze medalists will receive the Tiggo 7 Pro. 

According to the automaker, Chery’s entry into the Malaysia’s automotive market is marked by its commitment to excellence, innovation, and community support. As the brand expands its footprint across the country, it aims to continue uplifting local sports talent and contributing to the nation’s success on the global stage.

Launched locally just a few months back, the Tiggo 7 Pro is Chery’s answer to the Proton X70 and is currently retailing locally for RM 123,800. This family-focused 5-seat mid-sized SUV packs under the hood a 1.6-litre turbocharged four cylinder engine that outputs 194 hp and 290 Nm of torque, with it then being paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission for a 9.5-second century sprint time and a claimed 7.0l/100 km fuel consumption figure. 

Among the more noteworthy bits of kit that Chery wishes to highlight within the Tiggo 7 Pro is its twin 12.3-inch displays for its digital instrument cluster and central infotainment screen (with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration). This SUV also features a configurable 64 colour ambient lighting system with a mode that responds to the music being played from the 8-speaker Sony sound system, as well as panoramic sunroof and a 50 W ultra-fast wireless charging pad with built-in active cooling system.

The Tiggo 7 Pro is currently available in four colour combinations locally: Bloodstone Red with Black Roof, Carbon Black, Vanilla Blue and Khaki White with Black Roof. Chery is presently offering this SUV too with a 7 year/150,000 km warranty, a 7 year/150,000 km 24/7 unlimited towing service as well as a 5 year free service deal (free labour charge for 5 alternate service).
