BYD Leopard 3 will compete with European EV's head on in Malaysia

This is the BYD Leopard 3, or better know as Fangchengbao Tai 3 in China and it is a compact, all-electric SUV launched by BYD in April 2025. Priced in China from USD18,300, this is less than RM75,000 before logistics, insurance and dealer margins. So, Malaysians could get this for RM100k or so!

It is the first vehicle from BYD’s Fangchengbao “Titanium” lineup and offers an battery driving range of 501 km, available in both two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations with varying power outputs and features like refrigerators and KTV microphones.

Fangchengbao (方程豹), which translates to “Formula Leopard,” is an automobile brand owned by BYD Auto which was launched in 2023 and it focuses on off-road vehicles, with models like the Bao 5 and Bao 8 being prominent examples. These plug-in hybrid vehicles are built on BYD’s specific body-on-frame DMO platform.

This BYD Leopard 3 competes with EV’s like the MG ZS EV, Nissan Sakura e-4ORCE and Leapmotor C10 and it leads these rivals with a 501 km (311 miles) CLTC range. In contrast, the MG ZS EV offers around 440 km (273 miles), the Yuan Plus sits at 430 km (267 miles), and the Leapmotor C10 trails at roughly 410 km (255 mies).

This BYD Leopard 3 is also quicker with a 0–100 km/h time in 4.9 seconds which is faster than the MG ZS EV (8.2 sec) and Leapmotor C10 (7.5 sec).

Its 800V architecture allows it to recharge from 30% to 80% in just 18 minutes. That’s quicker than the MG ZS EV (34 min), Yuan Plus (30 min) and Leapmotor C10 (28 min).

Performance Edition: A 4WD version that includes an electric frunk, refrigerator, and electric seats.
