40 years of the BMW GS motorbike range is celebrated with this commemorative model.
BMW Motorrad Malaysia has recently unveiled the F 850 GS “40 Years GS Edition”. As the name implies, this special edition commemorates four decades of this iconic line of off-road motorbikes, as well as its multiple competition successes over the years.
Based on the normal F 850 GS, the most noticeable distinguishing feature of this commemorative model would perhaps be the eye-catching black-and-yellow colour scheme. Complete with yellow hand guards and a black fixed fork tubes, this special livery is designed to pay homage to the R 100 GS of the late 80s.
Other exterior enhancements on this special edition includes gold anodised rims, a galvanised GS radiator cowl, as well as “40 Years GS” designations on its fairing side panel. Thrown in as standard too on this commemorative motorbike are a main stand, luggage rack, LED lights all round and a 6.5 inch TFT display.
Speaking of the technology featured on this bike, this commemorative GS also comes complete with a whole host of packages (Comfort, Touring, Dynamic and Active) as standard. This therefore means that it is fully kitted out with top-end features like Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), Dynamic Electronic Suspension Adjustment (ESA) and Riding Modes Pro with four presets that can be selected through the right handlebar controls.
To add to that, Dynamic Engine Brake Control, Shift Assistant Pro ABS Pro, Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) and a tyre pressure monitoring system is standard on this particular for safer riding. Furthermore, the F 850 GS “40 Years GS Edition” features Cruise Control and navigation preparation for GPS devices, not to mention Keyless Ride for added convenience.
As for the powertrain of this F 850 GS “40 Years GS Edition”, it should come as no surprise that it is identical to the standard variant. Featuring liquid-cooled, 4-valve, fuel-injected 853 cc two-cylinder that is mated to a six-speed transmission, maximum power and torque figures are rated at 95 hp at 8,250 rpm and 92 Nm at 6,250 rpm.
Coming standard with a 3-Year Warranty and an equally long Roadside Assistance Programmes, these commemorative motorbikes will only be offered this year and in limited quantities. The New BMW F 850 GS “40 Years GS Edition” arrives complete with the Comfort, Touring, Dynamic and Active packages as standard, which features an extensive range of equipment for the ultimate touring motorcycle.
The new midsized GS variant is also equipped with a new tape design and the “40 Years GS” designations on its fairing side panel. The striking design and colour elements on the new premium motorcycle makes the model a true eye-catcher while upholding its place in the rich 40-year history of the GS models from BMW.
The front view of the new variant is crafted to suit the dynamic streamline silhouette for further agility and includes a striking yellow handguard that offers stylish protection on the road. The LED headlight of the New BMW F 850 GS “40 Years GS Edition” features Daytime Riding Light as standard, complemented with LED flashing turn indicators.
The New BMW F 850 GS “40 Years GS Edition” is also introduced with optional features that have now been made standard including gold-anodized rims and a main stand. Black fixed fork tubes and a galvanised radiator cowl are further hallmarks of this anniversary edition.
Towards the rear, the new variant is now fitted with luggage racks and a seat bench in black/yellow with the GS logo – ensuring a high level of recognition on the road. The New BMW F 850 GS “40 Years GS Edition” will be exclusively available in the striking Black Storm Metallic exterior colour offering with yellow design elements and will only be available in 2021 with limited units in transit.
The New BMW F 850 GS “40 Years GS Edition” retains its impressive liquid-cooled 4-valve, 2-cylinder engine with fuel injection that ensures powerful propulsion via a stunning 853 cc capacity and six-speed gearbox. The new variant’s maximum output achieves 70 kW / 95 hp at 8,250 rpm, along with a peak torque of 92 Nm at 6,250 rpm. The two counterbalance shafts in the new variant also delights with its smoothness, spontaneous response characteristics, impressive pulling power and low fuel consumption.
The New BMW F 850 GS “40 Years GS” Edition is also equipped with the latest generation of Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) and the Dynamic Electronic Suspension Adjustment (ESA) for an unparalleled riding performance around corners and across multiple terrain. Riding Modes Pro equips the new variant with the Dynamic Engine Brake Control and Shift Assistant Pro, as well as four riding modes that can be accessed via the right handlebar controls.
