GWM Malaysia Exports Over 1,100 WEY G9 Vehicles to Thailand and Indonesia
GWM Malaysia has exported more than 1,100 locally assembled WEY G9 vehicles to Thailand and Indonesia. The milestone strengthens Malaysia’s role as a regional manufacturing and export hub for ASEAN.
The achievement comes as GWM’s cumulative local assembly volume surpasses 10,000 vehicles since production began in October 2024.
The exports mark GWM’s expansion beyond Malaysia’s domestic market, supporting its wider regional presence and the country’s New Energy Vehicle (NEV) industry.
WEY G9 Exports Expand Regional Reach
The WEY G9 is GWM’s flagship luxury MPV. It combines hybrid technology, premium comfort and all-wheel-drive performance.
More than 1,100 units have now been exported to Thailand and Indonesia. The shipments also demonstrate Malaysia’s role in supplying GWM vehicles to other ASEAN markets.
Local Assembly Surpasses 10,000 Units
GWM began local assembly in Malaysia in 2024 with the HAVAL H6 HEV. The company partnered with EP Manufacturing Berhad (EPMB) to assemble the model in Melaka.
The locally assembled lineup expanded in 2025 with the WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV. GWM has now introduced the new WEY G9 Hi4 HEV, further expanding its locally assembled hybrid range.
Beyond production volume, local assembly supports the transfer of automotive technology and manufacturing expertise. It also contributes to workforce development and greater participation by Malaysian industry players.
Malaysia Remains Key to GWM’s ASEAN Strategy
GWM entered Malaysia in 2022 and has since expanded its product range, dealer network and local assembly operations.
The company continues to develop its NEV lineup and regional presence, with Malaysia serving as an important part of its ASEAN strategy.
With more than 10,000 vehicles assembled locally and over 1,100 WEY G9 units exported to neighbouring markets, GWM is expanding Malaysia’s role in its regional operations.
