New Hyundai TUCSON Debuts With Hybrid Power and New Technology

Hyundai has unveiled the all-new TUCSON, introducing a larger SUV with updated styling, new hybrid technology and the company’s latest Pleos Connect infotainment system.

The new TUCSON follows Hyundai’s “Art of Steel” design theme, with more pronounced fenders, cleaner body surfaces and redesigned lighting. The long-wheelbase version measures 4,700 mm long, 1,905 mm wide and 1,685 mm tall, making it 60 mm longer, 40 mm wider and 20 mm taller than the outgoing model. Its wheelbase has also increased by 30 mm to 2,785 mm.

The exterior features H-Edge front lighting and Prism Rear Lamps, while selected versions can be equipped with Micro Pixel Lighting using 25,600 individual LED pixels. The available colour range includes Ranger Green Pearl, Kodiak Blue Pearl, Driftwood Gray Metallic and Red Rock Orange Pearl.

Inside, Hyundai has redesigned the cabin with a two-layer dashboard, tactile controls and a steering column-mounted shift-by-wire selector. The new TUCSON also gets a 9.9-inch slim display, while higher specifications can be equipped with dual 15W wireless charging pads and three-zone climate control.

The SUV offers up to 1,064 mm of rear legroom, while available comfort features include an Ergo Motion Seat with pneumatic lumbar and bolster massage functions and a Relaxation Comfort Seat with a one-button recline function.

The biggest powertrain change comes from Hyundai’s next-generation hybrid system. The HEV produces up to 245 PS depending on market and specification, with the North American version targeting up to 42 mpg. The HEV can also operate its air conditioning, heating, audio and device charging with the engine switched off through its Stay Mode.

The range also includes petrol engines, while the plug-in hybrid combines a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine with an electric system to produce 292 PS and 38.7 kgf·m of torque. The PHEV has an estimated electric-only range of 81 km and a 7.2 kW onboard charger.

Technology is another major focus, with the TUCSON introducing Hyundai’s Pleos Connect infotainment system. It uses Android Automotive OS and is available with 17-inch or 12.9-inch displays, alongside a 9.9-inch slim display. Gleo AI provides conversational interaction, while over-the-air updates and an expanding app marketplace allow the system to gain new functions over time.

Hyundai has also introduced its Smart Terrain Assist on the TUCSON XRT PRO. The system assesses terrain difficulty and traction conditions, while Target Speed Control can manage acceleration and braking at speeds between 2 and 25 km/h during off-road driving.

The XRT PRO also gets all-wheel drive, all-terrain tyres, 210 mm of ground clearance and front recovery hooks. In North America, the HEV can tow up to 3,000 lb (1,361 kg).

The all-new TUCSON will launch in South Korea later this year, followed by North America, Europe and other markets in 2027.
