Range Rover Sport Electric Debuts With 550PS and 609km Range

The Range Rover Sport is now available with fully electric power for the first time, with the new Range Rover Sport Electric offering up to 550PS, 850Nm and a WLTP range of up to 609km.

The EV uses a 118.5kWh lithium-ion battery and two 260kW electric motors, with 550PS and 450PS versions available. The 550PS model can accelerate from 0–60mph in 4.3 seconds using Dynamic Launch Mode, while the 450PS version takes 5.4 seconds.

The 800-volt electrical architecture supports DC charging at up to 350kW. A 10–80 per cent charge takes around 22 minutes, while up to 220km of WLTP range can be added in 10 minutes. The battery can also operate with 400V charging infrastructure. Using a 22kW AC charger, a full charge takes less than eight hours.

The battery uses a cell-to-pack design with 344 nickel-manganese-cobalt prismatic cells across 10 modules. It is housed in an aluminium enclosure and comes with an eight-year or 100,000-mile warranty.

Range Rover has also revised the chassis for the electric model. Its body structure is 61 per cent stiffer than the Range Rover Sport PHEV, while its centre of gravity is 73mm lower. The EV uses Dynamic Air Suspension, Twin Valve Dampers, Adaptive Dynamics, Electronic Active Roll Control and Intelligent Traction Management.

All-Wheel Steering is standard on the 550PS version and optional on the 450PS model. The rear wheels turn by up to 7.3 degrees in the opposite direction at lower speeds, giving the SUV a turning circle of less than 11 metres.

Despite the electric powertrain, the Range Rover Sport Electric retains a 900mm wading depth and can climb gradients of up to 45 degrees. It can also tow up to 2.5 tonnes with Advanced Tow Assist.

The EV offers up to 609km of WLTP range, or up to 536km under the company’s stated real-world test figure. ThermAssist thermal management monitors 600 parameters to manage battery, motor and cabin temperatures.

The Range Rover Sport Electric is available in Dynamic SE, Dynamic HSE, Autobiography and First Edition specifications. It is built at Solihull in the UK, while its batteries and electric motors are produced at JLR’s Electric Propulsion Manufacturing Centre in Wolverhampton.
