Nearly 9% Of All New Cars Sold In Malaysia In 2025 Were Hondas

Honda continues to be the top selling non-national passenger vehicle brand in Malaysia for the 12th year running.

Despite the looming threat of an incoming Chinese onslaught, Honda Malaysia has nevertheless wrapped up 2025 on a strong note. The Japanese automaker recently announced total sales of 72,301 units over the past 12 months, securing an 8.8% market share and reaffirming its position as Malaysia’s best-selling non-national passenger vehicle brand for an unrivalled 12th consecutive year.

Now in delving deeper into its sales figures here, demand remained strong across Honda Malaysia’s core sedan and SUV segments throughout 2025. The HR-V, City and CR-V emerged as the brand’s top three bestsellers, together accounting for 25%, 24% and 15% of total sales respectively.

Unsurprisingly too, electrified models also played a growing role in the company’s overall performance. Honda Malaysia reported strong contributions from its e:HEV variants, with both the HR-V e:HEV and CR-V e:HEV each accounting for more than 30% of total hybrid sales.

Beyond the numbers meanwhile, 2025 was also a notably busy product year for Honda in Malaysia. The brand kicked things off with the local introduction of the facelifted Civic, followed by the debut of its first fully electric model, the e:N1, in July. Honda then rounded off the year with the launch of the updated HR-V.

2025 incidentally also marked a significant milestone for Honda Malaysia, as it celebrated its 25th anniversary. This was commemorated through the “Because of You” campaign, which included a three-month lucky draw to thank customers for their support. While four winners were announced earlier, the final two winners for December 2025 drove home a City 1.5L RS and an HR-V 1.5L T V.

One of the winners, Selangor-based Mr Cheah Wei Kong, entered the contest after purchasing an e:N1. He shared that while he was initially unsure about transitioning to an electric vehicle, a test drive quickly changed his mind, citing the EV’s ease of use and familiar driving feel. Winning a City RS on top of that, he said, made the experience truly unforgettable.

Another winner, Mr Muhammad Syabil bin Muzafar from Perak, joined the contest after purchasing a Civic 1.5L V. Drawn by the model’s sporty design and driving performance, he highlighted Honda’s long-standing reputation for reliability as a key factor in his purchase decision, with the additional HR-V prize coming as a welcome surprise.

Looking ahead, the next 12 months are shaping up to be a rather sporty period for Honda in Malaysia. This is in large part due to the imminent local debut of the Prelude, while industry whispers also suggest that the all-electric Super One kei car could make its way here as well.
