Denza D9 Sees 15% Price Hike As CBU EV Tax Exemptions End

The fully-electric (and fully-imported) Denza D9 luxury MPV now retails in Malaysia from RM 299,000.

With Malaysia’s revised tax structure for fully imported electric vehicles now in effect, Denza Malaysia has officially confirmed updated pricing for the Denza D9 luxury electric MPV for the 2026 model year. No longer enjoying tax- and duty-free status, this Toyota Alphard alternative now commands prices that are roughly 15% higher than before.

For newly imported 2026 units, the Denza D9 Advanced FWD variant is priced at RM 299,000, while the range-topping Premium AWD model now retails at RM 355,000. By comparison, this all-electric people mover previously sold for RM 259,000 for the FWD and RM 309,000 for the AWD during the tax-exempt period, representing increases of RM 40,000 and RM 46,000 respectively.

In addition to the higher purchase price too, owners will now also need to budget for annual road tax, which has been reinstated this year under the government’s new output-based structure. This comes in at RM 335 per year for the FWD variant, and RM 485 for the more powerful AWD.

That said, buyers who are unwilling to stomach this price hike still have a narrow window of opportunity. Such is as Denza Malaysia has confirmed that limited 2025 year-make units remain available at their original tax-free prices, with the company describing them as being in the “final phase of availability”. While exact numbers were not disclosed, snapping up one of these remaining units could net buyers savings of around RM 40,000, along with “additional ownership benefits” said to be worth up to RM15,000.

And now just a little refresher on the specs of the Denza D9, the base Advanced FWD variant is driven by a single front-mounted electric motor producing 313 PS and 360 Nm of torque, enabling the large MPV to complete the 0-100 km/h sprint in a claimed 9.5 seconds. Power is in turn supplied by a sizeable 103.6 kWh BYD Blade battery, delivering a WLTP-rated driving range of up to 520 km.

Opting for the Premium AWD adds a second motor at the rear axle, boosting combined output to 374 PS and 470 Nm. This naturally cuts the century sprint time down to a far more respectable 6.9 seconds, though range also drops slightly to 480 km on the WLTP cycle. The AWD variant also gains DiSus-C Intelligent Damping Body Control, bringing adaptive suspension into the mix for improved ride comfort and body control.

Charging capabilities are to be identical across both variants. DC fast charging tops out at 166 kW, which Denza claims allows for a 30% to 80% charge in 30 minutes, or roughly 150 km of additional range in just 10 minutes. AC charging however is capped at a modest 11 kW.

As expected of a flagship luxury MPV, the Denza D9 is anything but compact. Measuring 5,250 mm long, 1,960 mm wide and 1,920 mm tall, with a wheelbase stretching 3,110 mm, it comfortably out-sizes the Toyota Alphard and Vellfire twins. Denza notes that the D9 is 41 mm longer, 72 mm taller and offers an additional 110 mm of wheelbase, which directly translates to improved cabin space. In fact, the brand boldly claims a “7+7+7” carrying capacity—seven occupants, seven suitcases and seven carry-on bags.

And expectedly too, all that space is required to house its generous list of comfort and convenience features on board. Highlights of which include 4-way power-adjustable centre captain’s chairs complete with memory function, massage, ventilation and power-adjustable leg rests, a tri-zone climate control system with PM2.5 air filtration and a negative ion purifier, a 14-speaker Dynaudio sound system, and even a built-in centre console refrigerator.
