Your Ultimate Automacha Guide To RM 1.99 RON 95

Here’s the quick and dirty need-to-knows about the new Budi95 RON 95 petrol subsidy program.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll know by now that the Madani government has just announced something rather big — RON 95 petrol is now officially priced at RM 1.99 per litre for Malaysians. And if you’re reading this at the time of publication, chances are you’re already eligible to pump at this new subsidised rate!
But like most things government-related, you may have heard about it without actually knowing how it all works. And because nobody wants their petrol stop turning into a Q&A session at the pump, here’s Automacha’s quick guide to everything you need to know about enjoying RM 1.99 fuel without hassle.
1. How Much Is RON 95 Now?
- Malaysian citizens: RM 1.99 per litre
- Non-citizens: RM 2.60 per litre
2. When Did It Start?
- 27 Sept: Police & military personnel
- 28 Sept: STR recipients
- 30 Sept onwards: All Malaysian citizens
3. Who Is Eligible?
You qualify for RM 1.99 RON 95 if you:
- Hold an active driving licence (CDL, PDL, or LDL).
- Have a Malaysian IC (MyKad).
You’re still eligible if your driving licence has expired, so long as it has not lapsed for more than three years. Interestingly too, Malaysians holding Singapore driving licences are also eligible for this cheaper fuel price. This is nevertheless provided they are refuelling Malaysian-registered vehicles only.
4. How To Check Eligibility?
- Visit www.budimadani.gov.my and enter your MyKad number (numbers only, no spaces).
- Or, use the Touch ’n Go eWallet or petrol brand apps by completing the e-KYC process. Once verified, your Budi95 status will be shown in-app.

5. What To Do At The Pump?
- Cash payments: Present your MyKad at the counter for verification.
- Card payments at the pump:
- Petronas/Shell/BHPetrol: Insert or tap payment card first, then verify MyKad.
- Petron: Insert MyKad first, then payment card.
- App payments:
- CaltexGO: Register → link verified TNG eWallet → view quota → pump & pay via app.
- Petronas Setel: Complete one-time eKYC → check quota in-app → pay via in-app fuelling or QR scan. No MyKad needed after initial setup.
6. Budi95 Purchase Limits
- Per month: 300 litres
- Per transaction: RM 250
- Per day: No limit
7. What About Other Fuels?
No change in price. RON 97 petrol and diesel (in Peninsular Malaysia) remain on a floating system, with prices updated weekly as usual.
8. A Few Other Pertinent FAQs
If I own more than one car, do I get more quota?
No. Entitlement is tied to the individual, not the number of vehicles owned.
Can my spouse and I both fill up the same car?
Yes, but each person must use their own MyKad and be present at the pump.
What about e-hailing drivers?
The government is in talks with operators to grant higher quotas. Details to come.
Can I pump Budi95 if I don’t own a car?
Yes, as long as you’re driving a Malaysian-registered vehicle for personal use.
