Mugen Has Already Dolled Up The New Honda Prelude

Pimp up one’s new Prelude with a bodykit and other bits from the legendary Honda tuner.

Despite having only just made its international debut, the aftermarket has already been giving the latest Honda Prelude a bit more added spice. And among the first to step up is legendary tuner Mugen, who recently has shown off a few racier bits that one could eventually add to tart up their new hybrid coupe come 2026.

Now as is custom for any tuner worth its salt, the big ticket item that Mugen has unveiled for the Prelude is naturally a bodykit, comprising a carbon-fibre front splitter, side skirts, diffuser, and rear spoiler. That new kit will be offered alongside similarly carbon door mirror covers, along with lightweight 19-inch forged BBS wheels to give the sleek 2+2 coupe a slightly more aggressive edge.

As for those who want more meaningful performance upgrades meanwhile, Mugen has also announced that they are to sell a high-performance oil-filter element and a new sports exhaust system, just to help one’s Prelude breathe a little more freely and sound a little more sonorous. There’s apparently also an upgraded set of brake pads and a set of performance dampers on offer as well, with the latter developed in tandem with Yamaha to reduce chassis flexing.

Finally for those who want to tick every box on the Mugen catalogue, there’s no shortage of smaller accessories available. These include oil-filler and radiator caps, floor mats, sill plates, lug nuts, and even a fabric cover for the brake-fluid reservoir.

All these aforementioned parts are currently listed on Mugen’s Japanese website, with the full Mugen line for the Prelude set to be officially available in North America next spring. There is however no word yet on whether these parts will be officially available locally, though there will most certainly be no end of enterprising importers who will bring them in for those who desire them.

Mugen has yet to reveal the full price for the carbon fibre body kit, but those snazzy BBS forged wheels for ¥176,000 (RM 5,000) apiece. Both the brake pads and performance dampers in turn retail at ¥52,800 (RM 1,500) and ¥143,000 (RM 4,000) respectively.

And yes, the Prelude will actually be making its way here eventually. Honda Malaysia confirmed as much when they teased the concept version at the Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS 2024) last year, though it remains to be seen when exactly this 2+2 sports car will make it to our shores.
