The Turkish-made Togg T10X was gifted as a symbol of continuing cooperation between the two nations.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim recently received a Togg EV as a gift from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Erdoğan presented a white Togg T10X to the Prime Minister as a symbol of their friendship during his official two-day visit to Malaysia, with this Turkish-made EV said to also further symbolise both nations commitment to expand cooperation in new fields, including the automotive sector.
Anwar had driven the Turkish-made e-SUV to the Seri Perdana Complex, with Erdoğan accompanying him, to attend the exchange of agreements, a joint press conference and a luncheon. Earlier, the Turkish President was accorded an official welcome at Perdana Putra Complex. He then held a four-eyed meeting with Anwar, followed by a bilateral discussion.
“Yesterday, I happened to try the EV that was gifted by the Turkish president… he gifted it to the prime minister, but the way I see it is, it’s a gift to the country, it’s not my right,” Anwar said at his recent prime minister’s department monthly assembly. The Malaysian Prime Minister further stated: “I can use (the car) as long as I am prime minister, but after that I have to return it to the country.”
Now for those who might perhaps be unaware, Togg (which stands for Türkiye’nin Otomobili Girisim Grububy the way) is Türkiye’s first major national automaker. The company was founded as a joint venture by five Turkish companies in 2018, and it currently has two fully-electric models in its lineup: the T10X C-segment e-SUV and the T10F fastback sedan.
The T10X that was gifted to PM Anwar was Togg’s premiere product, with it previously entering serial production in 2022. The design of this e-SUV is said to incorporate several elements of Turkish culture, notably in the rims and the tulip-shaped grille.
Built upon its own bespoke platform, propulsion in the Togg T10X comes by means of either a single rear electric motor or a drive unit on either axle. The single rear motor configuration sees for this e-SUV to output 218 hp and 350 Nm of torque, enabling 0–100 km/h in 7.6 seconds, while the all-wheel drive trim churns out a combined 436 hp and 700 Nm of torque for a 4.8 second century sprint time.
Togg currently offers two battery options for the T10X, with both packs incidentally to be produced locally in Turkey. The smaller 52.4 kWh pack is claimed to afford this e-SUV a range of 314 km on a single charge, while the larger 88.5 kWh pack bumps that figure out to 523 km.
