Smart Begins Deliveries Of Its Base Trim #1 Pro In Malaysia

These Pro variants are the smart #1 EVs that bear the Tesla-baiting headline price tag of RM 189,000.

While deliveries of the smart #1 had begun shortly after its initial local debut in November last year, those paying attention will likely have noticed only the mid-tier Premium and top-end Brabus trims that have since been roaming the streets over here. Such is because it was only recently that smart has announced for the base Pro trim to be making its way to customers in Malaysia, bearing the rather attractive (and not to mention Tesla Model 3-matching) price tag of RM 189,000.

Previously launched locally along with the other two higher-end variants, here is just a quick refresher on what can be expected with this starter-tier Pro trim of the smart #1:

Starting with the oily bits first, this particular base flavour of smart e-crossover features the same same rear-wheel drive layout as with its mid-spec Premium counterpart, with its sole rear mounted motor developing a reasonable 220 kW and 343 Nm of torque. This in turn sees it capable of getting from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds, and on the way to a top speed of 180 km/h.

Different though between the two is for this Pro to feature a smaller 49 kWh LFP battery pack that is capable of a WLTP-claimed range of 315 km, instead of the larger 66 kWh NMC chemistry unit that sees the Premium manage 440 km on a single charge. This base trim also nets a less-powerful 7.2 kW onboard charger relative to the 22 kW capable unit, but is still nevertheless capable of 130 kW DC fast charging for a 10 – 80% top up in under 30 minutes.

In terms of kit now, the Pro trim features a set of low-drag 19-inch alloys and a panoramic sunroof with power blind on its outside, while a 12.8-inch floating central infotainment touchscreen, 9.2-inch digital driver’s cluster, a 10-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat and dual-zone auto air-conditioning with rear vents being among the highlights in its cabin.

The RM 30k delta between this RM 189,000 Pro spec and the RM 219,000 Premium step up does unfortunately see the former lose out on CyberSparksLED+ matrix headlights and an illuminated front grille available on the latter, in addition to leather upholstery and ventilated front seats, a 13-speaker 640 W Beats sound system, illuminated door sills and a 10-inch colour head-up display.

There is a total of 5 colour combinations for the Pro, which includes Future Green, Quantum Blue, Digital White, Cyber Silver, and Laser Red. Only one interior colour however for this particular trim, with that being what smart terms After Dark.
