Volkswagen Malaysia Is Now Selling Dog Collars & Water Bowls

Yes, even your four-legged friend can now be kitted out in some official Volkswagen merchandise.

In what might be one of the more interesting press releases to land in the Automacha inbox this year, Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia has recently announced the launch of a pet accessories line. And just so we’re clear here, the Volkswagen Pet Collection: Furever in Style isn’t about car-related pet products like barriers or seat covers, we’re talking instead about VW-branded dog collars, cat caps, and even matching owner socks.

This unusual diversification sees the German automaker offering pet parents a comprehensive range of branded accessories. The collection includes collapsible water bowls at RM 23.30, alongside collars priced between RM 33.10 and RM 40.50. Pet owners seeking quality walking gear can choose from durable leashes ranging from RM 50.40 to RM 52.90, while comfortable harnesses are available from RM 47.90 to RM 57.80, accommodating dogs of various sizes.

For the fashion-conscious pet owner meanwhile, cat and dog singlets are priced at RM 68.90 each, while matching caps for both species retail at RM 55.30. There are also pet bibs at RM 27.00 for mess-free dining, and perhaps most amusingly, matching socks for owners in pink and turquoise variants at RM 27.00 each.

The Furever in Style collection maintains exclusivity through limited availability at just four Volkswagen dealerships: Glenmarie, Puchong, Sg. Petani, and Alor Setar locations across Malaysia.

Supporting the launch, Volkswagen Malaysia is backing a Pet Adoption Drive at Jaya One on September 20-21, running from 10.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. Customers purchasing collection items during the event receive complimentary professional pet photography services, adding a thoughtful touch to the shopping experience.

According to Volkswagen, the collection maintains their signature focus on functionality without sacrificing style. Each product reportedly undergoes quality testing to meet the company’s standards, with collapsible bowls designed for travel convenience and harnesses incorporating ergonomic features for extended pet comfort.

The company positions this venture as an extension of their brand philosophy, stating that cars represent more than mere transportation – they’re about moments, memories, and connections. The pet collection supposedly honours the loyal companions who join Volkswagen customers on their daily journeys, reflecting the joy and companionship the brand claims to value.

All said however, this smells a bit like a brand that is floundering in sales coming up with ways to make some money. Though truth be told, we’d take the bet that these VW-branded dog collars might prove more profitable than moving their Touaregs off showroom floors…
