The Jaguar Type 00 Actually Looks Rather Stunning In Real Life

And it thus begs the question as to why didn’t Jaguar just showcase the Type 00 like this in the first place…

So a little while ago, Jaguar gave the world its first glimpse of its newly-reinvented self. And putting aside the rather un-Jaguar-y (to put it very mildly) teaser trailer, the car it subsequently showcased wasn’t exactly something that made people go “wow.”

Instead, with the official press photos featuring both a pastel pink and blue example set against a vibrant lilac background, the more common (and PC) reaction when people first clapped eyes on the Type 00 (pronounced Type Zero Zero) concept was a quizzical “eh?”

Now, without wanting to dwell too much on how badly Jaguar bungled its reinvention, the latest publicity stunt from the company unfortunately only served to reinforce that exact point. Because the Type 00 concept recently made a surprise appearance at Paris Fashion Week, and — what do you know? — in real life, this Jag looks absolutely stunning!

Repainted in a matte blue shade that the British marque dubs French Ultramarine, the Type 00 looks unlike anything else on the road — and in a good way too. The five-metre-long concept prowling the streets of Paris certainly has a presence that is both regal and audacious, and in this colour especially, it exudes that pimp-ish vibe which, honestly, is absolutely fitting for a Jaaaaaaaag.

Now all Jaguar needs to do is repaint its Type 00 in a deep glossy black, and just wait for the order books to fill up. Because there’s no doubt that in a rich inky hue, this concept will perfectly pull off the gentlemanly gangster aesthetic that only a Jaguar—and no other car—can.

The Type 00 made its surprise appearance at Paris Fashion Week chauffeuring Barry Keoghan, who was spotted climbing out of the passenger side through those uber-cool butterfly doors. Keoghan is perhaps best known for his role in 2017’s The Killing of a Sacred Deer, or, for Sabrina Carpenter fans, as the embarrassing boyfriend in the music video for Please Please Please.

It remains unclear if there’s some official collaboration happening between Jaguar and Keoghan, but if the aforementioned polarising brand teaser was anything to go by, it’s clear that the new JaGUar (yes, that’s how they’re styling it now) is keen to present itself as something funky and hip in the automotive world.

Worth highlighting here too is that, unfortunately, this stunning concept will remain just that. Though Jaguar has nevertheless confirmed that its upcoming production four-door all-electric GT will retain the Type 00’s radical styling.

As for what is to feature under the skin meanwhile, the company has previously stated that the production GT will offer a range of up to 430 miles (692 km) and an output of 1,000 PS in its most powerful form.

Set to debut by the end of this year, this four-door Jaguar GT is expected to come with a rather steep price tag of £120,000 (RM 650,000), reflecting the brand’s newfound uber-premium aspirations. The British marque is then set to expand its range further with two more models, which are widely speculated to be a luxury sedan and an SUV.
