The 500,000th Leapmotor Has Just Rolled Off The Production Line
More impressively perhaps is that Leapmotor made its 500,000th car just 100 days after its 400,000th.
Leapmotor has recently proclaimed that its 500,000th car had rolled off the production line. And while this is already an impressive milestone for a brand that most people still go ‘huh?’ to, what is perhaps even more so is the fact that it has barely been 100 days since the company reached the 400,000th milestone.
Sales of Leapmotor models have incidentally exceeded 30,000 units in both August and September, with sales in the last week of last month alone breaching the 10,000 unit mark. Its commercial performance in the first nine months of the year meanwhile is impressively up 94.6% year on year, with cumulative sales to date in 2024 exceeding 170,000 units.
In fact, its CEO Zhu Jiangming has just touted that sales for October alone should exceed 38,000 units. This in turn puts it on track to potentially hit the 600,000 cumulative production mark by the end of this year, and likely the million unit milestone by the end of 2025.
Now while many in Malaysia may have just been hearing about Leapmotor from its local launch here just a couple of days ago, it is worth noting that this Chinese marque has actually been around in its home market for nearly a decade already. Its first production model was to be a quirky three-door electric coupe dubbed the S01, which while rather cool, was unfortunately not the most hot-selling thing around.
Its second model however, the T03, a small 5-door hatchback was to be a much better volume seller for the company. And it is this very compact car that its newly-minted European partner Stellantis has recently begun producing in its own plant in Poland, for eventual commercial sale in the old continent.
The C10 that just launched locally was to be the automaker’s premiere world car, with Malaysia incidentally being its first export market in the Asian Pacific region. This new e-SUV lands over here with bold claims of offering a lot of space for the money, as well as ’driving optimisation by Maserati’.
Only one variant of the C10 is available over here thus far, with its pertinent technical figures being for its single rear e-motor to output 218 PS and 320 Nm of torque, while its 69.9 kWh LFP battery pack claiming a WLTP-rated range of 424 km on a single charge. This D-segment Leapmotor e-SUV currently commands a price tag of RM 159,900, but there is currently an introductory discount of RM 10,000 available for it from now till 30th November.
