Suzuki Jimny Allgrip & Rhino Plus Now In Malaysia With ADAS

This old-school Tonka Toy Suzuki 4×4 is now here with some modern-day active driver assist features.

While the Jimny may be synonymous with old-school off-roading, Suzuki nevertheless has recognised that perhaps some buyers might appreciate a little modern on-road tech too. Hence why the Japanese automaker has recently launched the new Allgrip Plus and Rhino Plus 3-door variants locally, bringing with them a host of active safety aids and convenience features.

Starting with the safety bit first, the “Plus” suffix denotes the addition of Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning and Prevention, Weaving Alert, as well as Automatic High Beam. Also fitted as standard are Dual Sensor Brake Support II (DSBS II), an Emergency Stop Signal, and side and curtain airbags.

On the convenience front meanwhile, a new 9-inch central infotainment system now supports a reverse camera in addition to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Front and rear parking sensors further help drivers slot this tiny 4×4 into tight parking spaces, while electrically-foldable and heated side mirrors come in handy when conditions turn cold or misty.

Much like before, power for both new Jimny variants continues to come from the K15B 1.5-litre VVT naturally-aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine, producing 102 PS and 130 Nm of torque. Malaysians still only get the sole transmission option of a four-speed automatic, paired to Suzuki’s part-time four-wheel-drive system with a transfer case offering 2H, 4H and 4L modes.

Standard equipment across both the Jimny Allgrip Plus and Rhino Plus includes automatic LED headlamps with washers and auto high beam functionality. Inside, there is a leather-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel on a tilt-adjustable column, fabric seat upholstery with 50:50 split-folding rear seats, and electric windows.

Differentiating the Allgrip Plus from the Rhino Plus is the latter’s more rugged appearance package. This comes in the form of a honeycomb front grille and bumper under garnish, while the profile gains side skirts and door visors, complemented by 15-inch polished alloy wheels and distinctive red mud flaps. Around the rear meanwhile sits a spare wheel cover featuring a Rhino logo.

All 3-door Jimnys continue to arrive in Malaysia as fully imported (CBU) models from Japan. Prices are set at RM 158,900 for the Jimny Allgrip Plus, and RM 173,900 for the Jimny Rhino Plus. The Jimny Allgrip Plus is incidentally priced identically to the current Jimny Allgrip Pro, which will continue to be offered in Malaysia while stocks last.

Available exterior colours include Jungle Green, Medium Grey, Bluish Black Pearl and Pure White Pearl. Buyers can also opt for either of two dual-tone paint schemes — Kinetic Yellow with Bluish Black Pearl or Chiffon Ivory Metallic with Bluish Black Pearl — for an additional RM 1,000.
