Single-Motor Volvo EC40 To Land Locally Costing RM 248,888

Losing its front motor has also lead to a healthy RM 40,000 drop in the price tag of this all-electric Volvo coupe-crossover.
Volvo Car Malaysia has announced the imminent arrival of a new single-motor EC40, and the headline news is its significantly lower price compared to the current twin-motor variant. This upcoming rear-wheel drive model will be offered in top-spec Ultra trim with a recommended retail price of RM 248,888, which equates to a a hefty RM 40,000 less than its all-wheel drive sibling.
Now while this rear-driven EC40 may not match the sports car-baiting 408 PS and 670 Nm produced by the twin-motor version, it still delivers a respectable 175 kW (238 hp) and 420 Nm of torque. That’s enough for a 0–100 km/h sprint in 7.3 seconds, before topping out at 180 km/h.
Power to the sole motor meanwhile comes from a 70 kWh nickel cobalt manganese (NCM) battery, which Volvo claims is good for up to 488 km of WLTP-rated range. DC fast charging at up to 200 kW enables a 10–80% top-up in just 26 minutes, while AC charging at 11 kW takes around seven hours for a full charge.
Aside from this new single-motored variant, Volvo has also introduced a fresh Sand Dune exterior finish for the EC40 locally. Inspired by the dunes of Sweden’s west coast, this warm metallic tone with shimmering glass flakes joins the existing palette of Aurora Silver, Onyx Black, and Crystal White.
Moving along inside, the new EC40 continues Volvo’s push towards sustainability with a fully leather-free cabin. The premium Charcoal Connect suede textile and Charcoal Microtech trim are complemented by updated Cutting Edge décor accents on the dashboard and door panels for a sharper, more modern look.
On the tech front, this single-motor variant gains Volvo’s next-generation user interface first seen in the EX30. It enhances the functionality of the 9-inch Google built-in centre display and the 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, offering a more refined user experience.
Other noteworthy bits of kit include Pixel LED headlights up front, powered front seats with driver’s side memory function within, and a hands-free powered tailgate round its rear. Being a Volvo, the EC40 is naturally equipped with the brand’s comprehensive Safe Space Technology suite, which includes the latest collision avoidance systems and advanced driver assistance features.
Aside from the newly-lowered price, Volvo Car Malaysia is offering early buyers of the single-motor EC40 a free first-year insurance package worth RM 5,600, along with a wallbox charger voucher worth RM 5,000. Standard aftersales coverage includes a five-year, unlimited-mileage vehicle warranty and an eight-year, 160,000-km battery warranty.
