EV Range Rover Touts V8-Rivalling Power & Off Road Prowess
This upcoming fully-electric Range Rover is also promised to be the quietest and most refined ever.
From its 2039 zero emissions target previously announced, it was always inevitable for there to be an all-electric Range Rover. And while many may still make jokes about how British electrics and Land Rover reliability are a fantastic combination, the hints currently dropped by its maker regarding the upcoming EV variant of its flagship should nevertheless see it to still be one of the most accomplished cars on the road.
Set to be riding on the same Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA) as the versions equipped with a combustion engine, the British SUV marque has unfortunately not gone into great detail regarding the specifications of this upcoming Range Rover Electric. It has however instead boasted for the fully-electric variant to be (not entirely unexpectedly) the quietest and most refined version ever created.
As expected for any EV too, this upcoming Range Rover Electric is likely to be a rather fast SUV. In fact, the British marque is currently touting for the fully-electric powertrain to be comparable in performance to its full-fat V8 counterpart, which as a refresher is currently running a 4.4-litre BMW-derived twin-turbocharged V8 that kicks out 606 hp and is hence capable of rocketing this tower block to 100 km/h from a standstill in just over 4 seconds.
Similarly fast as well will likely be the speed in which this new Range Rover Electric charges up, as it was hinted for this all-electric SUV to net an 800 V electrical architecture. No technical details have however been made public regarding its battery, but it is easy enough to guess that its capacity will likely be as big as the substantial physical size of this SUV.
Now with this being a Range Rover, it also should go without saying for this all-but-likely dual-motored all-wheel-drive EV variant to still exhibit all the off-road chops in order to befit its name. And just to hint at what it is capable of doing, its maker has thus revealed that this battery-powered SUV would be capable of wading through 850 mm of water.
As for how it will look meanwhile, it is expected that the Range Rover Electric to be by-and-large the same as its conventionally-powered counterpart. The accompanying teaser images did nevertheless show for the presence of a new slightly more closed-off front grille, in addition to subtle EV script replacing the brand logo on its wheel caps.
Designed, engineered, and built in the UK, Land Rover has stated for development of the new model in the virtual world is well underway already. It has since also commenced testing of a host of physical prototypes all around the world from the cold of Sweden to the sweltering conditions of Dubai.
Formal sales of the Range Rover Electric are currently tipped to begin sometime in 2024, but the British marque is already to be opening a waiting list for this upcoming zero-emissions arrival. Those who put their name on the waiting list will be among the first to have the opportunity to place a pre-order.
