PROTON has introduced the 2026 PROTON S70 i-GT 1.5 in Sabah, following its launch in Peninsular Malaysia on 22 September 2026. The East Malaysia introduction was held at City Mall, Kota Kinabalu, as part of a three-day roadshow running from 2 to 4 October.

The new S70 is priced from RM58,800 in East Malaysia and is offered in Lite and Prime variants. It is powered by a naturally aspirated 1.5-litre i-GT engine paired with a CVT and torque converter, with three selectable drive modes.

PROTON highlights 10 class-leading features across space and comfort, convenience and connectivity, and safety. The S70 leads its segment in length and wheelbase while also offering the widest body, providing space for three passengers in the rear and an almost-flat rear floor. Both variants also come with a soft-touch instrument panel.

Standard convenience features include an Electric Parking Brake with Auto Brake Hold, Key Remote Engine Start and one-touch Auto Up/Down windows with Anti-Trap. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will also be available for both variants from October 2026.

Safety equipment includes a five-function Rear Side Radar System covering Blind Spot Detection, Lane Change Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Door Opening Warning and Rear Collision Warning. A reverse camera and Rear Seat Reminder are also standard.

The naturally aspirated powertrain has undergone more than 5,400 hours of dynamometer testing and over 412,000 km of road testing as part of PROTON’s validation programme.

The S70 has also received a strong response since bookings opened on 7 September. More than 10,000 bookings were recorded within the first 14 days, averaging around one booking every two minutes.

Sabah has become an increasingly important market for PROTON. The company recorded 10,499 sales in the state in 2026, up 206.4% from 3,427 units in 2018. Its market share also increased from 5% to 10% during the same period.

PROTON currently operates 12 authorised service centres across Sabah, supported by a Regional Parts Centre in Inanam, Kota Kinabalu. The facility is intended to improve parts availability and reduce spare-parts lead times by up to 30%.

The S70 i-GT 1.5 was displayed at City Mall during the roadshow, where visitors could view the car, speak with sales advisors and register for test drives.
