Omoda C9 To Soon Land Locally With Tri-Motor PHEV Powertrain

Prices for this PHEV variant of the Omoda C9 is tentatively estimated to be around RM 220,000.
While much of the spotlight with Jaecoo these days is focused on the first public preview of its J5, the automaker has also recently pulled the covers off another model: the Omoda C9 PHEV. And the big news with this particular electrified SUV is that it happens to be the company’s most powerful model over here to date, featuring a triple-motor plug-in hybrid powertrain!
Starting with that rather fancy powertrain, it combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a 3-Speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT) and three(!) electric motors. The combined output is rated at up to a supercar-rivalling 605 PS and 915 Nm of torque, which in turn translates to a hot-hatch-beating 0–100 km/h sprint in just 4.9 seconds.
Feeding this tri-motor setup is a 34.46 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery pack, which has been touted to yield up to 150 km of pure electric driving range. With the petrol engine working in tandem meanwhile, the total driving range extends to an impressive 1,100 km. Fuel economy currently is rated by the WLTC at just 1.7 litres per 100 km.
In terms of charging, the Omoda C9 PHEV supports DC fast charging at up to 70 kW, allowing the battery to be replenished from 30 to 80% in just 25 minutes. For AC charging, the SUV accepts up to 6.6 kW, which takes around five and a half hours to charge from 30 to 100%.
Moving onto other technical highlights under the skin, the PHEV SUV follows its top-spec AWD ICE sibling by featuring a Continuous Damping Control (CDC) active suspension system. Equipped with five sensors, it can adjust the suspension response up to 100 times per second and offers seven specially tuned driving modes for both on- and off-road conditions.
In terms of differences between the ICE and PHEV variants, this electrified version gains an additional charge door on its rear left flank. It also sports a slightly altered bumper up front, as well as a new stylised ‘PHEV’ badge and a blue ‘C9’ emblem on the tailgate.
Moving along inside, the drive mode dial has been revised to incorporate hybrid and pure EV modes. The traditional engine start button on the dash has also been removed, with the car instead powering up automatically when it detects the driver with the key fob seated inside.
A full spec sheet isn’t available yet during this current preview, but it is expected that the C9 PHEV will come with the same kit as its petrol-only counterpart. The estimated price for this electrified variant is RM 220,000, which does make it a fair chunk more expensive than the current RM 188,000 flagship ICE-only AWD counterpart.
