Updated MINI 3 Door, 5 Door & Convertible Launched Locally

These updated MINI models receive a new face as well as other mild tech updates.

MINI Malaysia recently announced that its 3 Door, 5 Door and Convertible models have been refreshed for the 2021 model year. The same update that made its debut globally earlier this year, this second revision to the current iteration British subcompact car brings with it a slight redesign inside and out, as well as some new tech add-ons.

Starting with the changes on the outside first, the most noticeable difference with these facelifted MINIs would be its new face. That is because these updated models now gain a newly-redesigned larger hexagonal front grille, which within it lies a body-coloured panel that houses the number plate.

Other more subtle changes up front made during this facelift includes the addition of a slimmer front bumper, which hence saw the removal of the front fog lights that were replaced with bad weather lights integrated within the now-standard LED headlights. A redesigned rear bumper also makes an appearance, that features within it a new centrally-mounted LED fog light perched atop the twin central-exit exhaust.

Aside from the front and rear end updates, down the sides these updated MINI models also gain a new side scuttle with LED repeaters and model specific inserts. All these revised cars launched locally come as standard too with the Piano Black Exterior package, which adds black-painted door handles, tailpipes, emblems and fuel filler cap.

Now moving on inside, a new steering wheel and new air-vent designs join the addition of a a larger 8.8-inch central infotainment touchscreen with Navigation and Apple CarPlay integration as well as a 5.0-inch digital instrument cluster to these revised MINI models within the cockpit. Continuing on the topic of tech, this latest round of updates also adds Lane Departure Warning to the existing Driving Assistant and Parking Assistant packages.

As for what lies under the hood of all three of these revised MINIs, it is the same 2.0 litre MINI TwinPower Turbo four-pot as before. Outputting the same 192 hp and 280 Nm of torque, it sends its power to solely the front wheels through a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.

In terms of more specific performance figures, the MINI Cooper S Convertible can perform the century sprint in 7.1 seconds before topping out at 230 km/h. The 3 Door and 5 Door on the other hand both have a slightly higher top speed of 235 km/h, but the former manages to hit 100 km/h in just 6.7 seconds as opposed to 6.8 seconds.

The refreshed MINI 3 Door and 5 Door is currently priced at RM 253,318.69 and RM 261,005.83 respectively, and is available in White Silver, Island Blue, Chili Red, British Racing Green and Rooftop Grey, complete with Jet Black Roof and Black Bonnet Stripes. The Convertible meanwhile retails for RM 274,360.46 and comes in in Zesty Yellow, White Silver, Island Blue, Chili Red, and British Racing Green, complete with MINI Yours Softtop.

Currently available in all authorised MINI showrooms nationwide from today, the ongoing imposed national lockdown however has meant that prospective buyers are encouraged instead to view these refreshed models via the www.mini.my website. These new models are also available for online booking at RM1,000 each via the MINI eShop platform.

The New MINI models cement their positions as premium providers of driving fun, expressive design and individualisation, of which continue to be unparalleled in the segment.”

De Visser added, “It comes as no surprise that MINIacs in Malaysia enjoy the go-kart exhilaration that MINI has to offer, an experience we look forward to raising with the New MINI models. Designed to be the perfect driving companion, the MINI 3 Door, MINI 5 Door and MINI Convertible were some of our best-selling models in 2020 – having delivered just over 240 units combined, despite the slowdown in the automotive industry last year.”

The New MINI models stay faithful to their legendary roots but are now also the epitome of agile driving combined with an unmistakable look; they meet the highest standards in terms of technology and quality in their vehicle class. The New MINI 3 Door, MINI 5 Door and MINI Convertible achieve all this while setting new benchmarks once again for emotive design, clever functionality, and the signature go-kart handling.

Modernistic, Stylish, Purely MINI.

The New MINI 3 Door, MINI 5 Door and MINI Convertible arrive with a progressive look thanks to a new front design, characteristic side scuttles, and a redesigned rear apron. The new models also set new benchmarks for signature design elements such as the light alloy wheels, new MINI colours, a redesigned steering wheel, interior surfaces, and air outlets.

The new models now have a sleek front grille that forms a single unbroken hexagon. It extends low to the ground and serves a dominating look to the front of the cars. Within the front hexagon, the safety bar is hidden behind a body colour panel. All models also come with new front bumpers with fog lights replaced with the integration of air curtains for improved aerodynamics, and LED headlights with a new inner housing in High Gloss black.

The new models are also made more distinguishable by the Piano Black Exterior offering that embellishes the door handles, exhaust tailpipes, MINI logos, model badges and fuel lid in black, further complemented by the modernised side scuttle with LED indicators and model-specific inserts. Towards the rear, the widened geometry of the rear bumper emphasises the wider stance and sportiness of the new models, along with the new rear fog lamps styled in a centred LED light.

Inside, the new models are equipped with a redesigned steering wheel that features horizontal spokes with a new look for the lower spoke, and buttons which are integrated on an even surface with a Piano Black finish. The cockpit decor panel geometry is now refreshed with enlarged decor parts and the introduction of new decor designs. The inner and outer air vents have been modernised as well, and are integrated into the cockpit fascia.

The new generation central instrument cluster, with new Piano Black high-gloss surround, also features a larger 8.8-inch display with Navigation and Apple CarPlay, along with modern graphics that now come as standard in the New MINI models. The new Digital Instrument Cluster with 5.0-inch colour display, which also uses black panel technology, displays all relevant driving information, with configurable live widgets and two colour schemes: Lounge and Sport. The new MINI Ambient Light with six different colours is also available to round off the refreshed interior atmosphere of the new models.

Pure style meets pure power.

The new variants are powered by the 2.0-litre 4-Cylinder MINI TwinPower Turbo Engine. The engine is complemented by the 7-Speed Dual Clutch Sports Automatic Transmission to deliver up to 192HP and 280Nm of torque. The New MINI 3 Door and MINI 5 Door can do the century sprint in 6.7 seconds and 6.8 seconds respectively, each consuming 6 litres of fuel for every 100 kilometres, and emits 136 grams of CO2 per kilometre. The Driving Assistant system for the new models will also come with the Parking Assistant, and Lane Departure Warning – which is new to the MINI family line-up and now a standard across all new MINI models.

The new feature helps the driver stay safely on the chosen course at speeds between 70 and 210 km/h. To prevent unintentional lane departure, the system registers markings at the edge of the lane and alerts the driver if there is a risk of deviation by vibrating the steering wheel.

Drivers will now also be able to have greater digital interaction with the New MINI models via the new MINI App that provides easy access to a wide range of Remote Services, on-the-go navigation, and e-Mobility features. In addition to the Digital Instrument Cluster, Teleservices, MINI Online, Intelligent Emergency Call, Remote Services, and telephony with wireless charging are also standard across all variants.
