The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 4MATIC+ Coupe lands locally costing from RM 1.9 million (duties surprisingly included!).
For Malaysia’s multi-millionaires craving AMG’s boldest statement yet, meet the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 4MATIC+ Coupe. Having recently arrived alongside its roofless (and electrified) Mercedes-AMG SL 63 4MATIC+ E Performance counterpart, this pinnacle of the AMG lineup (as touted by its maker) lands locally with a similarly peaky price tag that starts from RM 1.9 million (duties mercifully included, surprisingly).
Now as per AMG tradition, at the heart of the coupé sits the familiar hand-assembled 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, which in this application churns out 585 hp and 800 Nm. 0 to 100 km/h comes and goes in just 3.2 seconds, with this sleek coupe then capable of promptly reaching speeds of up to 315 km/h.
Power reaches all four wheels via the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9-Speed transmission, paired with AMG Performance 4MATIC+. The new coupé can be driven in a continuously variable manner — from traction-oriented all-wheel drive with 50:50 power distribution between the front and rear axles to pure rear-wheel drive — meaning the iconic AMG tyre-shredding drifts will still very much be possible with this flagship.
Other advanced driving technologies that have been stuffed into this near 2-tonne beast includes AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL, active rear-axle steering, and the AMG high-performance compound brake system. There are also six AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive programmes for the keen driver to choose from: “Slippery”, “Comfort”, “Sport”, “Sport+”, “Individual”, and “RACE”.
Transitioning to the exterior here, the sleek nose of this GT gains visual impact courtesy of the bold AMG radiator grille and DIGITAL LIGHT headlights up front. At the rear meanwhile, horizontal LED taillights, an integrated active rear spoiler, and a race-inspired diffuser deliver a striking finale. The package is completed thusly with the AMG Exterior Carbon Package, AMG Night package, and 21-inch AMG cross-spoke forged wheels.
One standout exterior feature that incidentally remains completely hidden from view is the two-part, active air control system AIRPANEL. Vertical slats hidden behind the lower air intake and horizontal louvres behind the upper intake normally remain closed to reduce air resistance and direct airflow toward the underbody. Only when components reach certain temperatures do the fins open (the upper system activating only above 180 km/h) to allow maximum cooling air to reach the heat exchangers. Additionally, a patented carbon profile in the underbody automatically lowers by 40 millimetres at 80 km/h, responding to AMG drive programme selections to improve handling.
Finally moving along inside now, this second-iteration GT now offers a 2+2 layout and a boot large enough for a pair of golf bags. Yet the cabin remains unapologetically driver-centred, with deep AMG Performance seats and a flat-bottom steering wheel clad in carbon fibre and MICROCUT microfibre. An 11.9-inch portrait touchscreen running the latest MBUX anchors the centre stack, while a 12.3-inch digital cluster delivers five AMG-specific themes and can project key information via an optional head-up display.
A dedicated AMG Performance menu serves up live readouts for power, torque, g-forces, tyre pressures, fluid temperatures, steering angles, and even oil pressure in the active roll-stabilisation system, satisfying data enthusiasts at a glance. For circuit work, the standard AMG Track Pace logger captures more than 80 parameters ten times per second and displays up to four metrics in real time, helping drivers shave tenths off lap times with scientific precision.
