Mercedes-AMG GLE63 S Makes Its Inaugural Malaysian Debut
The AMG GLE63 S could be had in either boxy SUV or a slightly more svelte SUV-coupe forms.
For those who want to something that blends the macho-ness of the newly-landed AMG G63 and the sleekness of the AMG SL63, just note too that Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has also recently brought in the new AMG GLE 63 S 4MATIC+ and its SUV-coupe counterpart. This incidentally marks the first time these AMG-fied big Benz has made its way (in any official capacity at least) over here, with the three-pointed star marque currently asking RM 1,191,888 and RM 1,229,888 for this SUV and SUV-coupe variants respectively.
Now at the heart of the AMG GLE63 is to be the usual 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged AMG V8, with it to be complemented by an Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) and a 48-volt mild-hybrid system for some added electrified oomph like in its G63 counterpart. The pure ICE component alone is capable of sending a very healthy 612 hp and 850 Nm of torque through to all four wheels via an AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9G transmission and a fully variable AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system, while the electrified assistance contributes another 22 PS and 250 Nm to the proceedings.
From a standstill, the AMG GLE63 is currently touted to touch the century mark in just 3.9 seconds. With the AMG Driver’s Package meanwhile, the massive SUV would only be running out of puff when the speedo is showing 280 km/h.
In transitioning from straight line speed to cornering capabilities here, the AMG GLE also features an electronically controlled rear axle limited-slip differential and the adaptive AMG RIDE CONTROL+ air suspension with adaptive adjustable damping. And just for those who have the desire to take this large SUV on track, the AMG Track Pace virtual race engineer is on hand to provide lap, sector and acceleration times plus selected live telemetry data.
Setting these AMG-fied variants apart from a hum-drum GLE from the outside are a set of black-painted 22-inch ten twin-spoke forged AMG wheels, which hide behind it red-painted brake callipers that come as part of the AMG high-performance composite braking system. The front of these big Benz SUVs also nets newly designed MULTIBEAM LED headlights featuring Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus and an AMG emblem coming in place of the traditional Mercedes star, with a coupe-exclusive AMG spoiler lip being touted by its maker to further accentuate the sporty character of this slightly more svelte variation.
Among the tech highlights within the new AMG GLE63 are for it to feature the latest generation of MBUX on its twin-screen display, bringing with it MBUX Augmented Reality Navigation, a heads up display, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, in addition to AMG-specific screen designs to complement its AMG Performance steering wheel. Other creature comforts present in this sporty SUV meanwhile includes a 13-speaker Burmester surround sound system, THERMOTRONIC automatic climate control, a panoramic sliding sunroof, ambient lighting with animated projection of the AMG logo, EASY-PACK tailgate, temperature-controlled seats and cup holder, KEYLESS-GO Comfort Package, as well as HANDS-FREE ACCESS.
The AMG GLE63 is further equipped with the Driving Assistance Package which includes Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC, Active Steering Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, and Blind Spot Assist, as well as Active Parking Assist with 360° camera. In addition, the vehicle comes with PRE-SAFE® Impulse Side, GUARD 360° Vehicle protection Plus, Tyre pressure monitor, and Power Closing.
To those who want to witness these AMG-fied GLEs for themselves, it is currently on public display at Mercedes-Benz’s Luxury Like No Other event taking place from November 5 to 10 at the Autohaus showroom in Mutiara Damansara. This sporty drop top will be on show alongside the aforementioned G63 4×4, as well as the SL63, GLC43 Coupe and GLC 350e Coupe.
