Mazda CX-80 Makes Its Mark In Malaysia Costing RM 330,000

This six-seat Mazda SUV is incidentally the first PHEV to be offered by the brand locally.
Alongside the new CX-60, Mazda has recently also brought its six-seater CX-80 SUV to Malaysian shores. This more upmarket sibling to the current CX-8 arrives in a sole Skyactiv-G 2.5L PHEV AWD High Plus guise, which comes fully imported from Japan with a price tag of RM 330,000.
In terms of dimensions, the CX-80 measures 4,995 mm long, 1,890 mm wide and 1,705 mm tall with a wheelbase of 3,120 mm. This positioning places it between the CX-9 and CX-8 for overall length, while exceeding the 2,930 mm wheelbase of both models.
As for exterior aesthetics, the CX-80 follows Mazda’s current more robust and boxy design trend. LED lighting features throughout the SUV and is complemented by striking 20-inch alloy wheels that enhance its commanding side profile.
Under the hood, the petrol plug-in hybrid powertrain represents a Mazda first in Malaysia. The system consists of a 2.5-litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder engine (shared with the CX-60) producing 191 PS and 261 Nm of torque, paired with a 175 PS/270 Nm electric motor positioned between the engine and eight-speed automatic transmission.
The combined output for the PHEV powertrain delivers a substantial 328 PS and 500 Nm of torque, but what buyers may find particularly appealing is the 17.8 kWh lithium battery’s ability to provide an all-electric range of up to 65 km on the NEDC test cycle. The battery pack can further be charged at up to 7.2 kW AC supply, achieving a 0-100% charge in just 2.5 hours.
Inside, the CX-80 continues Mazda’s no-touchscreen philosophy with its 12.3-inch central display (including wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay) operated via the Multi-Function Commander Control unit. This is complemented by a fully digital instrument display of matching size, alongside a heads-up display and a 12-speaker BOSE sound system.
Nappa leather upholstery adorns the CX-80’s interior, with power adjustment available on both front seats — 10-way with memory function for the driver and 8-way for the passenger — as well as the steering column. The second row features a pair of captain’s chairs with heating, ventilation and power reclining functions, while the third row consists of 50:50 split-folding seats.
On the safety front, seven airbags come standard and are complemented by a comprehensive suite of passive and active driving aids. The active safety features include adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, cruising and traffic support, smart brake support, driver attention alert with driver monitoring, lane-keeping assist, lane departure warning, front and rear cross-traffic alert, and blind spot monitoring. A 360-degree surround view camera with “see-through” viewing angle functionality has also been included.
Bermaz is currently offering the CX-80 with coverage under a five-year, 100,000km manufacturer’s warranty and includes a five-year, 100,000km complimentary maintenance package. The SUV is available in five colour options: Melting Copper Metallic, Rhodium White, Artisan Red, Platinum Quartz, and Jet Black.
