GAC Emkoo Launched In Malaysia Costing From RM 123,800

The first 500 GAC Emkoo buyers in Malaysia are entitled to a RM 4,000 cash rebate, along with a RM 10,000 accessories package.

Following up from the GS3 Emzoom, GAC has now launched its slightly larger Emkoo SUV in Malaysia. Locally assembled at Tan Chong Motor Assemblies in Segambut, this stylish new contender takes aim at the Proton X70 and Toyota Corolla Cross, with prices starting at RM 123,800 for the Premium and RM 133,800 for the Premium Pro.

In terms of size, the Emkoo sits on the larger end of the C-segment spectrum. Measuring 4,680 mm long, 1,901 mm wide and 1,670 mm tall, it’s actually closer in footprint to larger SUVs like the Honda CR-V and Mazda CX-5 — which already gives it a strong presence on the road.

Design-wise, the Emkoo makes a bold first impression with GAC’s “Borderless V-Shape Grille,” flanked by sharp L-shaped LED headlamps. Its coupe-like profile features pop-out door handles and striking 19-inch dual-tone alloys, while the rear end is dominated by slim vertical taillights and an aggressive dual-wing roof spoiler that wouldn’t look out of place on a Gundam.

Under the hood sits the familiar 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine shared with the GS3 Emzoom. It produces 177 PS and 270 Nm of torque, paired with a seven-speed wet dual-clutch transmission driving the front wheels. Performance is respectable, with a 0–100 km/h time of 8.8 seconds and a top speed of 190 km/h. Official fuel consumption is rated at 6.6 litres per 100 km.

Moving along inside, the Emkoo’s cabin is just as futuristic as the exterior. The dashboard features a  dual-tier layout with a 10.1-inch floating infotainment touchscreen (complete with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto), accompanied by a 7-inch fully digital instrument cluster.

As expected of a modern Chinese SUV, equipment levels are generous. The Premium variant comes with keyless entry and start, single-zone automatic climate control with rear vents, a six-way power-adjustable and ventilated driver’s seat, faux leather upholstery, six speakers and a 360-degree camera system with a transparency mode.

Opting for the Premium Pro meanwhile adds a panoramic glass roof with a powered sunshade, ventilated passenger seat, air ioniser as well as interior ambient lighting. Speaking of lighting too, only the Premium Pro gets an animated welcome light sequence that includes the lightsaber-style taillight bars.

Five exterior colours are offered with the GAC Emkoo: Super Star Silver, Graphite Grey, Asphalt Black, Frost White and a new Star Lake Green. Buyers will also enjoy a five-year/150,000 km warranty, complemented by a seven-year/180,000 km powertrain warranty.

The first 500 GAC Emkoo buyers in Malaysia are entitled to a RM4,000 cash rebate, bringing the price down to RM119,800 for the Premium and RM129,800 for the Premium Pro. Also thrown in with this early bird offer is a RM 10,000 accessories package that brings with it front and rear dash cams, side sill scuff plates, a luggage tray, sports pedals and V-Kool tint.
