To those looking at buying a new Ford Ranger pickup, this may actually be the best time to do it, As Sime Darby Auto ConneXion (SDAC) not only brought out a facelift for its mid-range XLT Plus variant, but is also offering attractive deals on selected Rangers till the end of this year.
The introduction of the facelift to its XLT Plus variant comes two years after this trim level was launched locally. Slotting beneath the WildTrak and Raptor within the Ranger lineup, the XLT Plus facelift is set to come with premium features from both those variants.
As it is a facelift, naturally the front end design has been tweaked a little. New body coloured bumpers with a silver front bumper lip that supposed to replicate the look on the Ranger WildTrak, in addition to a new chrome grille, supposedly gives the new Ranger XLT Plus a more aggressive aesthetic. New bi-LED headlights with integrated DRLs, that deliver as much as 17% greater light penetration in the dark, are standard on this Ranger too. Giving drivers better visibility while driving at night.
Under the hood of this facelifted Ranger variant remains the same 2.0 litre four cylinder turbodiesel making 180 PS and 420 Nm of torque. Drive is sent to all four wheels through a 10-speed automatic transmission, the first and only pickup truck to date to come with that many ratios.
Much like the powertrain of this new Ranger, the list of features remain largely the same. An easy-lift tailgate, keyless go, rain sensing wipers and an 8 inch touchscreen infotainment system with reverse camera functionality are among the creature comforts in this modern workhorse. As for safety features, this Ranger comes with the usual alphabet soup of acronyms, which include ‘Hill Descent Control, Hill Launch Assist, Antilock Braking System (ABS) with Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) and Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), ISOFIX child seat mounts, Electronic Stability Control with Traction Control, Rollover Mitigation, Trailer Sway Control, Adaptive Load Control and Ford MyKey.’
Priced at RM 129,888, this XLT Plus facelift variant might seem a tad steep, but that is what pickup trucks go for nowadays. That said though, the new Ranger does come with a three year/100,000 km manufacturer warranty.
SDAC is also currently offering four free vehicle service and cash rebate options for selected Ranger vehicles until 31 December 2020 to sweeten the deal on all new Ranger variants.
According to SDAC, buyers can enjoy up to RM 7,000 cash rebate on both the base-spec Ranger XL and selected XLT variants. Selected higher end variants like the XLT Plus, Wildtrak and Ranger Raptor will be offered with the option of four free services, that is equivalent to a two-year/40,000 km free maintenance schedule, or a RM 2,000 cash rebate up front.
It is worth pointing out though that pickup trucks are not eligible for the sales tax rebate offered under the PENJANA scheme, as they are classified under commercial vehicles in the eyes of the government. Just keep that in mind when browsing in the showrooms.

As with the entire Ranger line-up, it comes with a full manufacturer’s warranty of three years or up to 100,000km, whichever comes first.
