Facelifted Xpeng G6 E-SUV Launched Locally From RM 178,888

This facelift comes just a little over a year since the original Xpeng G6 first made its mark in Malaysia.

Despite having only been around locally for a little over a year, Xpeng has nevertheless recently decided that its G6 is due for a refresh. And hence we welcome the facelifted version of this award-winning curvaceous e-SUV, which brings with it slightly sharper looks and a slightly reworked cabin, to complement a comprehensive rework under its skin.

Now talking about variants first however, the facelifted G6 lineup locally drops the base Standard Range trim in favour of offering just the RWD Long Range Pro that retails for RM 178,888. This update also marks the debut of a dual-motor trim locally by way of the AWD Performance at RM189,888, which can be had as a Black Edition for an additional RM 4,000 at RM 193,888.

In terms of changes meanwhile, all facelifted G6s in Malaysia now come as standard with an 80.8-kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. The RWD Long Range Pro’s quoted range is 525 km following the WLTP standard, while the dual-motored Performance AWD is said to run out of juice after 510 km.

Intriguingly, this new Long Range Pro’s claimed range of 525 km is somehow than the 570 km previously quoted by the pre-facelift Long Range 2WD and its 87.5-kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery. The current pack in all the facelifted G6s is nevertheless said to support 5C charging with a whopping DC input peak of 451 kW, which is supposedly sufficient for both variants to charge from 10-80% in just 12 minutes. AC charging remains capped at 11 kW, meaning a 5-100% top-up will take over nine hours.

As for what those batteries power, the rear-mounted motor in the RWD Long Range Pro now pushes out a few more ponies to the tune of 296 PS in place of the previous 259 PS. Peak torque nevertheless remains unchanged at 440 Nm. Despite the bump in power however, the newly facelifted variant is 0.5 seconds slower to the century sprint at 6.7 seconds over its pre-update predecessor, though it does add 2 km/h to the outgoing car’s 200 km/h top speed.

Touching on the AWD Performance in turn, this dual-motored variant adds another motor on the front axle to the RWD Long Range Pro’s rear motor for a total system output of 487 PS and 660 Nm. This translates to a 0-100 km/h sprint time of just 4.2 seconds, with no change to the top speed that stays at 202 km/h.

Aesthetics-wise, the facelift brings with it a full-width ‘Starlight Wing’ LED light bar up front. The wheel arch trim now comes finished in body colour for a sleeker side profile, while the boot lid gains a small ducktail spoiler just above the similarly slim rear light bar.

Moving along within, the outgoing G6’s 15-inch screen has now grown by another 0.6 inches. Its two-spoke steering wheel also gains capacitive touch buttons, in addition to a new design for the air vents and cupholders.

Both variants of the G6 offered locally are pretty much identical in terms of their kit list. 20-inch alloys and a panoramic sunroof are to be found on the outside, while inside nets a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, dual-zone climate control, a 16-speaker XOpera surround sound system (with two driver’s seat speakers), six-way powered front seats with heating, ventilation and massaging functions, 256-colour ambient lighting, Nappa leather upholstery and a suede headlining.

5 colour ways could be had with this facelifted G6: Arctic White, Graphite Gray, Midnight Black, Silver Frost and Stellar Purple, the last of which replaces the rather vibrant Fiery Orange. Its cabin upholstery meanwhile can be had in either dark or light grey. The Black Edition of the G6 gets the Performance AWD’s powertrain and features, but adds on a black Xpeng logo, 20-inch gloss black alloys and similarly black brake callipers.

All G6s in Malaysia comes with a five-year, 120,000-km manufacturer warranty, while the battery is covered for eight years or 160,000 km, whichever comes first. A five-year, 100,000-km free maintenance package is also to be thrown in with every new purchase. Those who require an AC home charger can pay an extra RM 4,300 for a 7-kW unit, or RM 5,000 for an 11-kW system with installation included.
