BYD Seal 6 EV Lands Locally Costing From Just RM 100,000

The BYD Seal 6 EV offers C-segment levels of space but just for the price of a B-segment sedan.
BYD Sime Motor has recently launched the Seal 6 in Malaysia, marking the international debut of the model outside of China. Positioned as the smaller and more budget-friendly C-segment sibling to the namesake Seal, this new EV incidentally also becomes the brand’s seventh model introduced locally in just two years.
Now before getting into the details about this new BYD over here, just a quick note on its name. Despite being called the Seal 6 here, this is not the same as the Seal 06 sold in China. Instead, Chinese buyers will likely be more familiar with it as the Qin L EV.
Getting back to the car itself now, two variants of the Seal 6 are available for Malaysia. They are the Dynamic and Premium, and they are priced as follow:
- Seal 6 Dynamic – RM 100,000
- Seal 6 Premium – RM 115,800
In terms of dimensions, the Seal 6 measures 4,720 mm long, 1,860 mm wide and 1,495 mm tall, with a 2,820 mm wheelbase. This makes it one of the largest C-segment sedans on sale locally, out-sizing rivals such as the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla Altis and Mazda 3.
Exterior aesthetics of the Seal 6 is to be slightly more conventional than the sleeker Seal sedan, though the Premium variant is distinguished by 18-inch alloy wheels (over the 17-inch set on the Dynamic), a full-width LED front light bar and a panoramic sliding sunroof.
Power with the Seal 6 comes from a single rear-mounted motor, which BYD says delivers a sportier drive feel. The Dynamic variant produces 129 PS and 220 Nm, allowing for a 0–100 km/h time of 10.9 seconds and a 160 km/h top speed. The Premium bumps this up to 218 PS and 330 Nm, dropping the century sprint to 7.5 seconds with a higher 180 km/h top speed.
Both versions are powered by the same 56.64 kWh Blade lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. And interestingly, despite the power difference between the two, both variants somehow carry the same quoted range of 485 km on the NEDC cycle (410 km WLTP).
Charging is supported at up to 100 kW DC fast charging, where a 30–80% top-up takes around 23 minutes. On AC meanwhile, the maximum rate is 6.6 kW. The Seal 6 also offers vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality at up to 3.7 kW.
Finally finishing under the skin, the Seal 6 sits on a dual ball-joint MacPherson front suspension and a rear multi-link setup. In a first for BYD, the suspension on this EV is apparently tuned specifically for Malaysian roads, and hence supposedly delivers a firmer ride than the Qin L in its home market.
Moving along inside, the Seal 6 comes with a 12.8-inch infotainment touchscreen (fixed rather than rotating) and an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are supported, along with voice assistance in English, Malay, Cantonese and Mandarin.
The Dynamic variant gets a six-way powered driver’s seat and manual passenger adjustment, while the Premium adds eight-way driver and four-way passenger powered seats with ventilation. The Dynamic is equipped with a six-speaker audio system, while the Premium upgrades to eight speakers. The higher-end trim further gains extras like a sunglasses holder, ambient lighting, footwell illumination and LED door lights.
Safety kit on the Seal 6 includes six airbags, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, tyre pressure monitoring and a full suite of ADAS features. This includes AEB, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane departure warning and forward collision warning.
Three exterior colours are available with the Seal 6: Arctic White, Harbour Grey and Misty Blue. The Dynamic is limited to the first two, while the Premium offers all three. The cabin meanwhile is available only in a black and grey scheme.
As part of its launch extravaganza, BYD is offering an exclusive launch package worth RM 6,288 for the first 800 customers of this Seal 6. Landed property owners will receive a free wall charger valued at RM 3,288 along with a RM 3,000 rebate. High-rise residents instead get a Sime Platinum 4+ by Power Up 12-month doorstep charging programme worth RM 5,000, which includes four mobile charging sessions and two car washes per month, plus two complimentary EV rescue charging services per year, alongside a RM 1,000 rebate. Buyers will also receive a V2L adapter and a Type 2 three-pin plug charging cable.
The Seal 6 comes with a six-year/150,000 km vehicle warranty, an eight-year/100,000 km drive unit warranty, and an eight-year/160,000 km warranty for the Blade battery.
