Audi R8: The Popular Choice In The China GT Championship

Ten Audi R8 LMS entries entered by seven teams are amongst 59 cars for the penultimate round of China GT Championship (CGTC) 2026 at Shanghai International Circuit from September 4-6. Nine Audi R8 LMS GT3 evo IIs are joined by an Audi R8 LMS GT4 entry competing across four classes in the GT3 and GTS categories, representing a significant force amongst the colossal multi-marque grid.

With the promise of a truly memorable weekend for GT fans, it is no surprise a vast spectator turnout is anticipated for what will be a highlight of China’s motorsport season.

Audi R8 Race

New team Apex Predator Racing made its Audi debut at round two in Zhuhai with a single Audi R8 LMS GT3 evo II for Liu Haozhe and Zhang Shimo, and this time expands its entry to two cars. In Shanghai, Eighteen-year-old Vietnamese Pro driver Alex Sawer Hoang Dat makes his Audi debut with the team, the 2025 F4 South East Asia Champion expected to replicate his junior single seater success in GT competition.

Sawer is joined on the team in the sister car by a Pro-Am line-up of He Guiming who makes his season debut alongside Han Jingfeng, who took two Am podiums alongside Yang Xiaowei at 610 Racing at the season-opener in Shanghai.

Audi R8 Race

Jackson Chuang Chishun and Su Yenming return with LEVEL Motorsports after their top ten overall finish and Am podium in Zhuhai. They are joined in the class by Li Dongsheng and Li Donghui at Climax Racing, and 326 Racing Team’s Wu Yifan and Liu Zichen, podium finishers in Ningbo. 610Racing’s Steven Zhou and Yang Xiaowei team up for the Shanghai showcase.

In the Masters class, championship leader Xiao Min reunites with new team mate Chen Sitong at Aerion Racing by Incipient, the pair having won their race in Zhuhai together, promoting Xiao to the top of the leaderboard.

Second in the Masters standings, just 15 points behind Xiao, is Johnson Huang who returns solo with 610 Racing having contested the last three races alongside son Gavin in the Pro-Am category.

Currently third in class are 33R Harmony Racing’s Xing Yanbin and Ray Wu with an 18-point deficit to make up in Shanghai, the venue of an early-season class win and podium for the pair.

Vladimir Lobachev returns to the wheel of the 326 Racing Team Audi R8 LMS GT4 in the GTS class, this time with Xu Keming, having made his debut in the car alongside Li Jiaohao in Zhuhai.

The vast CGTC entry is divided into two categories, with two 56-minute plus one lap races for the GT3 entries, and three for the GTS/GTC runners to make up for the unavoidable cancellation in Zhuhai. Free practice gets underway on Friday, September 4, with qualifying run on Saturday morning.

The opening GTS/GTC race gets underway at 13:25 on Saturday, followed by GT3 at 16:20. Sunday sees the GTC/GTS cars go head-to-head twice, with race two at 09:15 and race three following at 15:50. The second GT3 race starts at 14:00 on Sunday (all times UTC+08:00).
