Lepas L6 EV Launches in Australia Ahead of Malaysia

Lepas will launch its first Australian electric vehicle, the L6 EV, in October. The mid-size electric SUV comes from Chery Group and uses a dedicated platform designed for different vehicle sizes and new-energy powertrains.

The L6 EV sits on the LEX platform, which will underpin the brand’s next generation of electrified vehicles. Its design draws inspiration from a leopard, including slim LED lighting that resembles the animal’s eyes. The Lepas name combines “Leopard” and “Passion”.

Power comes from a 65 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery paired with a front-mounted electric motor. The motor produces 160 kW and 275 Nm of torque, with power delivered exclusively to the front wheels.

Lepas claims the L6 EV can travel up to 440 km on a full charge under the WLTP testing cycle. Its stated energy consumption stands at 17.5 kWh per 100 km.

The SUV also supports DC fast charging, allowing the battery to charge from 30% to 80% in approximately 22 minutes. Actual charging times will depend on factors such as charger output and battery temperature.

Chery Group’s battery development experience also contributed to the L6 EV’s battery system. The company designed it to balance driving range, efficiency, charging performance and everyday usability.

Lepas Begins Its Australian Expansion

The L6 EV marks Lepas’ first step into Australia’s competitive mid-size SUV market. The brand plans to combine distinctive styling, technology and electric power for local buyers.

Lepas Australia chief operating officer Lucas Harris described the launch as an important step for the business. He also highlighted the brand’s focus on design, intelligent technology and electrification.

The Australian launch comes as Chery Group continues expanding its range of automotive brands in overseas markets. However, the supplied announcement does not provide details on Australian pricing or the full equipment list for the L6 EV.

Despite the headline suggesting a future Malaysian launch, the announcement only confirms the Australian introduction. Lepas has not provided a Malaysian launch date or local specifications in the supplied information.
